Any good float tubing lakes in Eastern oregon that arent frozen this time of year? or other fly fishing spots? I will be over in the Burns area for 2 weeks and need something to do.

However, with the poor snow fall you might find a few spots open. Burns is pretty far south for my area of knowledge, but they are catching lots of Steelies on the Grand Ronde now. Good Luck!

You should try Mann Lake if you have the time to drive there.....you go out Hwy 78 then down a gravel road on the east side of Steens Mtn, about 90 min from town.. Mann Lk has Lahontan cutthroats up to 3 pounds. You can float tube it or wade. I've done best there wading out as far as I can go then turning around and fishing back towards the shore. It probably isn't frozen over and is open year-round, 2 fish/day, 16" minimum.

Edit: Salmurai is right about the wind at Mann....it can really blow there. One time in spring I was there and it was blowing very hard coming down off the mountain and then across the lake so intensely fishing was impossible..... except you could go over to the west side, hold your rod up and let out your line....then drop the rod and commence fishing. When I left I drove south about 2 miles....still within sight of the lake and stopped.....the air was dead calm but I could see whitecaps back on the lake.

I third the motion and say go to Mann. I did better fishing the shoreline. The float tube gets blown around too much. I had several trout bump in to my fins while I was kicking out (I think they were in love -it's spawning season around March/April).
I did good using a black wooly bugger with a chironomid pattern on the dropper. I caught an equal amount of fish on both patterns. I saw a couple guys using two chironomid patterns (one on top and one tied to a dropper). Lots of fun. I don't recommend eating the fish. They tasted like mud to me. After that meal I became a catch and release guy all the way. Just my humble opinion. Have fun!!
