I lost a HUGE SPRINGER this morning it came off right at the boat,my buddy was just getting ready to net it when the hook came out.It had to weigh 30-35#'s it was HUGE !!! it made one run and took close to 80 yds of line before he stopped then came right back at the boat then another run of about 30-40 yds fought him close to the boat for about 5 min he came up rolled over open his mouth the kiwk-fish came out it looked at me laughed and swam off  talk about a sick feeling, thats the only one we http://smilies.networkessence.net/s/contrib/ruinkai/lightingzapA.gifhooked this morning. It was really nasty out there today too. I saw a picture of one that weighed 40#'s caught day before yesterday it stretched all the across between the wheel wells on a 1/2 ton pickup
it was a MONSTER.

Another NATIVE released unharmed. Nicely done. Oh, wait, you were about to net it ... when you noticed the fin!
Like I told someone else, you're ahead of me ... but ... man, I hate it when that happens. :depressed:
You forgot to mention the vague general vicinity of this tragedy

Better to loose a fish by th boat than to have no pulls or hookups. what comes around gos around.

Sorry the hooks puled out. Next time!
It is amazing to me how a lure like the Kwik Fish with so many hook points can possibly just pull out of a fish's mouth, but it happens all of the time - go figure. Think of it as your contribution to conservation.

I hear that taking off the treble hooks and putting on a siwash or double-hook works better. The guy said that the treble has too many places to get in the way with three hooks.

He also said that surveys say that a single hook actually boasts more hookups than a treble, which is strandard on the kiwikkie.

Too bad Bob...
Next time....
On the treble hook vs. single hook. According to Charlie White who built a mechincle set of fish jaws and placed an acutal fish head over the devise to activate the jaws, the hook ratio of a treble hook is much higher than a single hook.
He dropped both styles into the head and closed the jaws with his deivse and noted the results for both. Get his video and you can see what he did. I will stick with the trebles based on what I saw.

Don't feel bad Bob. I was using #2 Owner cutting point treble hooks a few days ago and lost three on the CR. Next trip out I went with 3/0 Daiichi single hooks and lost another. Sometimes bad luck is better than no luck. At least you got some action.
Hard to eat a memory. :depressed:

At least you HAD some action. I was brought down to earth with a huge crash and burn today... 0-0 :hoboy:
I guess on days like that I would not mind loosing one.
Just look at it this way, you are that much closer to your next one now that you got that LDR out of the way

Hey bob i know how you feel lost one same size last sat. right at the boat, just a little down river from where you were at. But mine was on a rainbow clancy with fresh squezed sardine oil. It was the only fish we hooked on sat. Makes me sick thinking about it right now. No quikies for me just clancies...

Ask FishinXTC about the quickies... He posted a nearly tragic event of taking one in the crotch... That was a close call... glad the hooks aren't sharp!!!!!!!

Its pretty amazing how a fish can spit one of those out. Get one hook stuck in the sea anchor and while you're trying to get that one out, ALL of the other ones get sunk in even deeper than the first. Oh yeah, and drop one on a towel... forget about it.
