I have the opportunity to driver through the park 3 or 4 times a week. I haven't seen many people fishing or heard of many fish being caught. I haven't fished it for about two months. I imagine the fish that are there are going to be pretty dark.

I've heard the same rumor. Actually, it's not a rumor. I've talked to several people who have picked fish up...and all BIG!!
Sounds like shrimp is the ticket.

How do you fish the John Day. I have a boat....is it needed? Do they pull plugs, drift bait? Appreciate any help as I have been contemplating trying to get info on it and going over. Also would appreciat any info on springer fishing in this area for the same reason.
Thanks,

You can either use snadshrimp and a diver and troll, Or you can put shrimp and eggs and a bobber, Or you can pull plugs. Wiggle warts (micheal jackson w/hemeroids)

What are the best drifts to do and how difficult are they? Thanks

There are no drifts. Water is all backed up for 11 miles from the mouth from the reservoir. One can fish from the bank in a few spots right at the mouth or upriver. Upriver you will need a boat. Most troll in deeper water, but in the upper end, it is a bobber show. Lots and lots of weeds in the water. Not a good place for a jet. (Personal experience)

Rola 76..... please. You were right the first time. Rumors, about big fish.
Lower river, no fish. Upper river, flies, fish.
