Anyone hear anything as to when they may open our beaches for Razor clams? We have some fair AM minus tides coming up in three weeks or so.

Heard the levels are slowly dropping but still not "Safe". Bay clams are open for digging however. Hopefully razors will be open by the time those tides come.

This is a good spot for everyone to read who are sometimes  skeptical of what is and is not included in these closures. I do believe this is a rewritten piece in easy to understand language for a change.

Hey thanks Posh.
I've been wanting a website for the red tide closures for a long time. Thought in Oregon you had to spend the dime on the phone call.
Check these out. Excellent!

Hey soreback, looks as if you might be a P.C. guy. Where do you go razor clammin', down here at Agate Beach, or north to Seaside/Gearheart.
Pretty phenominal clammin' all up & down the Coast last year.
The gal that worked at the minimart in Seaside told me you could get them any day of the week/month there last year because there was so many and so high up the beach. I think she was right.
I hit Gearheart 4th of July last year on my way home from Longview. It was an afternoon low tide of only 2.7' if I remember right (not a - 2.7).
Got there about an hour after the tide was coming in. The clammers had already limited and left. The beach looked like it had been rotortilled, and I still got an easy limit! 2.7'
I did have to get most of them in the surf that time because I was so late for the tide.
Up there a lot of dry sand digging. Down here, (Agate beach, north jetty) mostly digging in the surf. Got some good pic's at Agate beach of them necking last year with my digital and maybe post them on here one of these times.
Good for beginners to see. I don't know how many people asked me, "what do they look like when they are necking", last year.
Washington has two excellent sites with great pic's of dry sand shows, and of detailed cleaning.
I found them real quick and pasted URL's above.

Howdy Dan,
We do our razor digging up north. That is 12th ave. Seaside or Sunset Beach. Our bay clams come from Netarts and Tillamook bay. You are right, last year was fantastic. Today's problem is we have no razors left in the freezer. It still works as we can survive on beef, stealhead and bay clams.

Got 1 limit of RCs left in the freezer, but looks like we aren't gonna get any digging this spring. Took Mama on a drive up the beach last Sunday and walked out on my favorite clam bed at mid-tide. Sand looked like it had been cluster bombed with "shows". Should oughta be great clamming if they ever open it,,,,,,,,,

I think it will happen Slugranch, just not sure when. Your trip into the sand sounds encouraging. Think I will try it Tuesday as we have to run up to Astoria.

FYI,
Use any stored clams conservatively. It may be a while (many months or longer) before either state opens their beaches. ODA reports that the last levels were still in the high 80's!
