Go to this website

US Gas Zip Search (http://www.gaspricewatch.com/USGas_ZipSearch.asp)

Enter the zip code of the ramp and see the prices within a prescribed radius. Not perfect, but a good place to start.

be careful putting that cheap gas in your boat. i would put it in my truck but not my boat. it is not worth the possible headaches on the water.

with cheveron pricing gas at 1.97 for REGULAR
i figured locals in different areas could give the some "tips" on finding those cheaper gas stations....

AS FOR PDX -we all know that if you want to launch out of chinnok landing there is the SUPER cheap station right off I-84 but they have long lines(at the very end off all those stations by the sandy river.)

BUT To get the same prices with shorter lines try the Am/PM by that wallmart off I-84. It's usually about 10-15 cents lower per-gallon (Go east from the Boat salvage yard at the 4-way stop on your way to chinnook landing) and there is allot of room for sleds and no lines usually.

looks like that Am/PM by the millwalkie boat launch on the wilamette is out of comission for a while (some kind of tank work going on)

i was wondering if there are cheap gas stations in convienant areas to boat launches. Especially around scappose and st-helens..since that is where ill be for the next couple weeks.

Anyone cheating? Using regular instead of super? Using regular and adding octane booster? Is this an option for a sportjet?

I have a 2002 Optimax that I run on regular. So far, I havent noticed any problem.

Regarding gasoline octane, two years ago I contacted Yamaha to determine what grade would be best to run in my two outboards. I was concerned about the poor quality of gas we are getting these days, and heard that some people were even using 100-ocatane aircraft fuel in their boats. The answer I received back from the U.S. Yamaha Distributor in California was: "Use REGULAR, 87 octane, as indicated in the manual." They further went on to say that the gasoline used in Japan where they test all of their motors is of poorer quality than in U.S., and that the motors will operate best with the lower grade than with Super. I have used only Chevron, '76 Unico, or Texaco REGULAR in my engines since...with preservative added if gas in tank is to be stored over winter.
Just my 2-cents, with the company's answer to my question.

DJFish,
I saw an email that basically said the same as you stated in your post, but are any of these stations here in Oregon. I would definately patronize these non middle east supporters.

Citgo is the gas that 7-11 sells in Vancouver.
Conoco-Phillips is 76. (around here anyway)
BP is ARCO.
There's a few Sinclair stations in eastern Oregon, but they sell unbranded gas for some reason.
I can't remember the last time I saw a Sunoco. Probably in CA.

Regarding using super in your boat-
If you have a motor (especially a 2-stroke) that's sensitive to jetting changes, and you switch from regular to super, you might have problems. Higher octane gas has a higher specific gravity and might have the effect of making the jets too small. It's usually only a problem with high performance engines that put out a lot of HP per cubic inch, like PWC's, snowmobiles, dirt bikes, etc.
