Special weather statement National Weather Service Portland or 358 AM PST Sat Feb 22 2003 ...Gusty East winds expected Sunday and Monday... A cool high pressure area is expected to slide down from Western Canada and move into Eastern Washington Sunday. That will bring very windy conditions to locations near the Western part of the Columbia river gorge and through the some of the Cascade passes. Areas in the northern Willamette valley including Clark county that are near the Columbia gorge are expected to have East winds increasing from 30 to 35 mph Sunday through Monday. In the Western Columbia gorge... and through East to West oriented passes in The Cascades that are near the Columbia river gorge...Expect winds to Increase from 30 to 40 mph with gusts 55 mph Sunday through Monday. The strongest winds will likely be very early Monday morning. The exact strength of these winds will depend upon how cold the high pressure area that develops East of The Cascades is on Sunday...And how tight the surface pressure gradient between Pendleton and Astoria becomes. "
