I've never done it and would like to know How. What do you look for when searching for them? Do you see them right on top and start dipping the net? Was going to try the Sandy, Do I stay in the lower Sandy? And also heard that you can rent nets at Jacks snack & Tackle, Can you? Would rather rent a net before I buy one. Thanks for any help

Dip right out from the parking lot there off of I84. Wade out to waist deep and reach upstream and swipe the bottom with the current. Or go to the cowlitz and stay on the bank and limit quick.
Good luck

Corkie,
I passed this question onto my 10 y/o son. He dipped for the first time today so I think he is now an expert. Here is his answer:
Dip on the west side, behind the outlet mall, about 10 yds ABOVE the I-84 bridge. You will see the smelt on the top to 2 feet down, Dip upriver to down. Swing the net fast enough to keep the smelt in the net.
Corkie, call me at 503-789-5488, you can borrow my net. I live off Division, by the Golf course, in Gresham. Maybe 2 miles from the river.

Its a learning process. You must put in your time to learn. Go where there some dippers and observe. That will take 5 to 10 minutes. While they are packing out ask to use the net and get your limit in 10 to 15 minutes. Eat and Repeat.
