When is enough-enough   ? I am sick of seeing the post I’m new and everyone wanting a story out of them graemlins/icon_argue.gif . Let’s make it something useful. If you’re new post a technique or place something worth reading, I love the stories just as much as the other as the story hounders (is that a word), you know who you are graemlins/stupid.gif , I’m just tired of reading story post. This board is big enough already it is annoying to weed through the junk get to something useful. How about welcome the new person to the board and they have to tell us all their secret spots  . With so many people joining this board we are going to have to have another website just for new stories.

I don't read them anymore. All of the useful post are off the first page in about 2 point 2 seconds. I was nice to look at the board and see all the great report and techiques that people posted with out having to check every five minutes. Opps did I just admit to that  .....Chris

I fell asleep with my contact in.
Took the boys to school. Kilchis threw up in the car.
Then, I did 2 hours of work on Chris Sessions web site, and the computer froze before I saved it.

ARGH!

Yes, that was funny.

There have been a few newbie stories that made me laugh until I cried. I enjoy reading them.

Keep them coming, I want to to break the 2.2 second mark for making a thread disappear to page 2.

Now go have a better day!

I agree about the over crowding on the main page and I know that Jennie is aware of the issue or else she wouldn't have added that post for newbie's but the main page is still crowded with newbie post and the demanding of a story doesn't help.

Ifish is only going to get bigger, the main page will continue getting to many greeting post and all the informational post will get pushed off.

I like the idea of new members having to give a story (it's fun) but maybe somewhere else on the site.

Jennie,
Here's my idea, how about if new members and old have a place to put their story in their profile that way if you want to know a little more about their personality just click. and a simple hello and an introduction will be fine on their first post (seeking info, or giving info).
that's my 2

Being as Im new to this site, and have just posted in the past few days I'd like to say that the B.S. with the zipperlip $#!^ and rippin' on new members..... I've just become a lurker. This site should be for locals (Oregonians & Washington folks) to share stuff. I dont get that impression. Guess before I joined I shouldve paid more attention to the whining and 2nd grade B.S. that is goin on in here.

done......

Quit wading through the junk and find something useful (http://www.ifish.net/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=search;search_forum=1).

Quite logical... don't like the junk, just bypass it. What a concept. And who's to say it's junk anyway?

Ya this thread is really useful now isnt it.

Im kinda shocked that there hasnt been a bigger responce from Jennie or the mods. Seems like they would have something more to say about it being they do ask newbies to post stories dont they?

Or are you insinuating that there are enough members ? Ifish is growing and i think that was probably what Jennie wanted graemlins/hearton.gif
So i for one say WELCOME NEWBIES give us your stories that the MODS asked you for
And that MOST of us enjoy reading

I used to encourage new members to post stories, it was really fun when we were a smaller group.
Now, however, there are so many new members that I can't read them all.
I don't think there is a way, nor a members will to go their profile to write a story that perhaps no one will see, but we could try that.
I don't want to DIScourage new members in writing a story, because several members appreciate them. Everyone comes to ifish for different reasons.
My rock solid approach on this forum is to provide information on fishing, but I don't want to remove the personality ifish has.
It's a really tough balance to keep, when the numbers are so large.
I try to discourage this kind of negative post, and feel like it should be kept to e mail. Imagine the horror of someone who just took the time to write a long story and have this be the reaction? Welcome? NOT!
So... I was thinking after our last long conversation on what to do about post overcrowding on ifish, that people might get the hint and stop demanding new post stories, and it has diminished to some extent.
New members? Fall in! Join our crowd! Let's talk fishin!
--and Kleancut? I don't blame you a bit for feeling singled out. I think it was a rotten thing to say.

I was a lurker for quite a while before registering and joining in. What motivated me to join iFish was there seemed to be a much different personality to it than other fishing boards...friendly!

I saw time and time again where somebody would ask the same question that had been asked a million times already (guilty of that myself) only to get a well thought out response. It was that kind of membership that motivated me to join and it is that kind of attitude that keeps me coming back.

the newbies hate the demand to post stories as much as we hate reading them. I have friends that are members but won't post because they don't want to post "the story". I agree with them. I won't try and define what ifish is but it's not about hasseling newbies to post a short novel

The vast majority of ifishers are happy to have new members and, I believe, their stories. I know I enjoy reading them. I used to post a welcome to every one I saw. I recently stopped because it brings the thread to the top and might force another topic to the bottom.

If you think mods welcomeing new folks is an idea worth saving I will go back to welcoming all the new folks.

For those of you who ae concerned about the fishing tips and reports not staying on the main page, all you have to do is post to the thread and back to the top it goes! Does not seem too difficult.

I strongly second Jennie's request about complaining e-mails. If someone is ragging you via e-mail for somthing you said on ifish I would like to know about it!

Another thing to remember: If sad-sack whiners are one in one hundred then every time we add a hundred members we pick up another one. Don't worry about them because they will always have something to complain about: "my zipperlip", "you took a picture of a native", "that fish is not as big as you said", whaaa, whaaa, whaaaaaa!! Call the Whaaaambulence!

People are as happy as they allow themselves to be. Some people will never be happy. I chose to be a happy guy who enjoys sharing fishing with others. Got a problem with that? Cry somewhere else.
