CATCH AND EAT

Went down Saturday to jig herring at Yaquina Bay. Boy was the weather great. Just a little wind, just a little rain. For a little while anyways. By about 10:45 it was sunny and 56.

Okay, started out really slow. Had a hard tiime finding the little buggers. Tried the favorite spots to no avail. Finally went back to the place we started and drift fished for the herring. Picked up some but nothing like we should have. My buddy Mike T. found the fish first but when they stopped biting in this area the weather turned pretty ugly for about 1/2 and hour so he packed up and left. To soon that is. graemlins/stupid.gif

I had just asked my boys if they wanted to go as the little guy had already expressed he wanted to go home (3 years old). Then the rain let up and I saw two boats anchored up at the cement ship. Went over there and anchored up. Then we started hauling the fish in. Not a banner day but we did manage 53 lbs and big smiles on the faces of Spencer and Daylin. Spencer and I got into a competition of who can bring in 6 at a time. We both managed to accomplish this and it was a blast. Daylin loved catching those little buggers and he would pick up the ones that dropped on the floor and put them in the bucket.

The fish are there but you gotta look for them. Best area is between the green can and the cement ship. We were using the Sabiki Rig.

Special Thanks to my friend in Newport. You know who you are. I appreciate the heads up.

most likely you ran into the "fresh water syndrome". On the other hand, the seiners were out saturday working the channel. We really started hitting the fish around 11 on Saturday.

I have to agree with CATCH AND EAT we didn't start doing good until about 11.It was slow all morning when they all of a sudden just turned on and there was fish every where.

I hooked up on Saturday as well of the cement ship, we were slaying them. I couldn't get it to the botttom without a hook up. I only keep about 10lbs. Remeber to limit your catch if you aren't going to use them all. Be realistic, its easy to get carried away, and the effects are cumulative. We want the herring back for many years to come.

Oh don't worry, they will get put to good use on Salmon and sturgeon. Glad to hear you guys hooked up too. Hey Paul, what boat were you in anyways? I was in an alumiweld flatbottom with one little guy and and 11 year boy. Had our binimi top up.
