View Full Version : Using Quick Fish

Got to say Im a bait, spinner, Wobbler kind a guy. Have alot Quick fish in my box but just
can't get the hang of it. Have looked up search.
Seem that I get them tuned when there three feet down but as I get them back and set the
darn things turn over and jet to the top. When I try to use them it seem like there is way to
much action ( compared to a wobbler ). Should the side to side action be 100 mph???
People around me are using them so the current should be ok.

Try searching under KWIK instead of Quick.

Hope this helps!

They don't work well in a very fast current. But you should try useing differant sizes,I'm not real sure but I believe the smaller ones in fast water and bigger in slow water or maybe its the other way  ,I use a K-14 or sometimes a K-15.I read somewhere on here that the K-13's worked really well last year so I bought a couple of those to.Where I fish and anchor I use a 48" lead line and a 52" leader works really well for me.I try to stay in 20'-25' water.Sardine wrapped Kwik-Fish work !!!

The slower the current, the smaller the kwikfish. ie. K-13s in slow water will wobble more than a K14, but will shake too much up by Bonny. Go with a K15 or K16 up there. The side to side (and resulting rod throb) will still be faster than a wobbler.

Make sure you are tying directly to the hot-shot snap (or whatever you call it) that comes with the plug. If you put a swivel snap on a plug sometimes it will cause the thing to 'roll over.'

Are you wrapping them with a filet? If so that might have something to do with it. Make sure it is reasonably symmetrical and tied on evenly on the bottom of the plug. I have never found them to be overly sensitive as far as tuning goes (not like a smaller plug anyway)

I'd have to say, not seeing the conditions where you're fishing that the current might be a little strong. Go smaller if that is where you must fish.

I usually rig mine with 3-4 foot leader from a three-way swivel, and hang a dropper to add weight...anywhere from 1 to 4 ounces here on the Rogue. Bounty Hunter is right. Don't add any swivels or extra hardware to the plug. Tie your leader directly to the factory snap.

They will usually tolerate reasonably heavy current, but here on the Rogue I get a LOT of fish backtrolling Kwikfish with a wrap very slowly upstream in still or barely moving water, such as Hellgate canyon or Taylor canyon.

The size I use mainly here on the Rogue is a K-15. When you get a plug this big down deep in heavy water, they will throb and pull pretty hard, but shouldn't pop up. Thye don't always have to be right on the bottom. As a general rule that's where you want to be...but experiment. Sometimes fish are suspended in the water column

Color doesn't matter as long as it's silver with a chartreuse tip. I counted over sixty plugs in my tackle box the other night, and that color is the one that I use hands down the most. (Seriously..there are many other colors that will work...I just tend to fish the one that I have the most confidence in)

A word to the wise, before you buy your kwik fish look at the bill and the eye if the eye is turned off to one side or the other don't buy it.
You want a straight eye, also look closely at the bill some of them have a twisted bill or crooked bill don't buy it you will never be able to tune either of them esp. if you put a sardine wrap on them.Good luck
