Another great day at Kelly point! I fished daylight until dark and caught a nice keeper. Had the pleasure of fishing next to lablover and Warren in the morning and we all caught lots of shakers. The weird thing was Warren was using last years smelt and outfishing us 2 to 1. Picked up my big bro and "the butcher "around noon and talked to the guy who was anchored below us and saw his 58" hog he caught on roll mop and got back to fishing. I had fresh smelt that lablover dipped on the Lewis yesterday and squid I bought last night. At around 4:30 my rod went off big time, the ticket was old smelt and squid sandwich! go figure I mean why would a gator hit old smelt when fresh was about 2 feet away? Anyway the fish went 48" fought hard and I caught it right under fresh fruit's nose! It was a beautiful day on the river and I want to thank 5 cents for his post on squid/KP last week. Looks like fish tacos this week! the fishhog:) http://www.ifish.net/uploads/32032242.jpg

I don't buy your story of old smelt/squid sandwich. It looks to me like you were baiting with Jelly Doughnuts.

Nice fish! I like seeing the salmon rod in the back ground. Man they put up a tussle on those things. I was kicking around the idea of where to go on Friday and decided on the Gorge. I may have to change my mind if I hear another report or two like yours. Did you guys catch a lot of fish or was the bite a little slow?

Congrats on the gator

tackelbuster, The bite was good all day mostly shakers but lots of action. The only time things slowed down was from 12;00 noon til 2:00 PM then it picked up again we were fishing right off #40 dolphin in 54' of water just downstream from KP . Go get em I know there is a fish waiting for you!

fishhog1,

Nice fish graemlins/applause.gif

I have caught all of my keepers this year on squid but one. We always like to start out with each pole using a different bait then we will switch to what the gators like! I always take squid, smelt and shrimp. I usually have some pickled stuff with me too just to make sure I cover all the bases.

Very nice fish!!
Nothing better than getting them on a salmon rod!

Chris,
Stay away from Kelly point, go to the gorge! I would like some fish left for me on Saturday!

See you on the water.

I am in total shock........you mean I actually get to meet you! We are really going to be fishing on the same day, and all this time I thought you were just a legend. Maybe I'll start to believe all the talk about Bigfoot now too!
Could it be the same being???? No I have seen your picture, bigfoot has less hair!

We will see you on the water. Hope to catch lots of fish!

I'll be slaying at the gorge on Friday but will be in the KP area bright and early on Saturday.

You got my cell number. Let's keep in touch on Saturday. Between the two of us, those sturgies will have some sore lips.

Shane,
You in on this one as well on Saturday? It just doesn't seem right without that Mirage as my wingman

Chris,

I will be out on the water on Saturday but I think we may chase some salmon instead of gators. I have not made up my mind yet. I have your cell number and I will not forget to take my phone this time.
