My Aunt called me from florida and said I should come down and get her xhusbands boat. A Zodiak 550.....

Ive seen a few pictures on the internet of this years model and I really doubt its the one shes talking about, the boat looks too awesome to be given away. Its 8 months old, been in the water 3 times and thats all the details I have.

Free boat is a free boat, but could I be wasting the time and gas money to go get it? Is this something I can use for fishing? Ive heard Zodiaks are a a great ocean boat, and a friend told me today it can be fitted with a jet.

Thanks Boe...but what should Doug do?

Seriously, should I pay $1.79 a gal to go get it?

Why go all the way there? Just have a shipping company send it to your house. It can go on a truck, in a container, or of it breaks down to a smaller size, by air. Why drive all the way there and back? Save your dollars and fly there and visit her as it is shipped here.

Woohoo new boat time.

I guess I am going to have to research this, and get some more details from my aunt...if I seem too much of a sceptic, she'll sell it to the first guy with cash to be vengefull to her X

Whos got nothing to do for the next two weeks? I'll have to pay for gas anyway, (maybe the shipping thing is an option, but she wants me to get away for a while because of whats going on with my dad...her brother.) Anyone have a reason to drive to Tampa?

Ive got this immature breakdown of what it will cost me in the short term..

Gas Money..$1.60 is the current national average..22 MPG = $????.??

Most likely a good job I just got.

5000 more miles on my 2000 dakota that already has 62000 miles on it since I got it NEW at Lithia in Roseburg 28 months ago.

Uhh, and a really nice christian gal I just met

Someone give me the pros please.

I don't know the exact size on that thing, but it will probably cost $1000 to $1500 to have it trucked out here. You might contact a car hauler and see what they would do it for. Try someone like Dependable Auto Shippers (don't know if they will do it if it is not a 'drive-on' unit). They might be more or less than the rate I mentioned for a contract carrier. It will depend on how well it fits there shipping lanes. Probably looking at a week delivery time either way.

Looks like this is a great allaroung boat for this area. You have someone giving it to you, all you have to do is go get it, and somehow it sounds like you are complaining. Think about it, would it be better if she brought it up to you? Then you would have all the trouble of putting it in the water. I'm sorry, but it is hard to be too sympathetic here.

Fly down there and rent a U-haul to bring it back? Pay a moving van to bring it here? Don't those boats sell for around 10k?

Cirr, if you just got a job, look into shipping it. Do you have another relative in Florida that can help you? Maybe he/she could take the boat to the dealer it came from in Florida and have them ship it to a Zodiac dealer in Oregon (IBC in Portland). They may get a better rate on the shipping. Motion Marine in West Linn has experience with Zodiacs and jets. Hope that helps.

Capt..."complaining"??? I had no idea what this boat was or if it were worth the expense of getting it. Gus..whats my mom got to do with it?

Its a 2002 18' Zodiak pro open 550 with a '03 yamaha 90 4 stroke
Talked a dealer into going to get it and look it over before putting it into a storage unit for $80 bucks a month. They are going to get with Motion marine to figure out the shipping...(its on a trailer) hopefully I can sell my bayliner soon! (see classifieds!)

I dont know but I dont think its an option, its a fiberglass vhull, and the dealer said it appears to have had some custom transom work to accomidate the yamaha motor...??

Either way I'm psyched, Ive never gotten a thing for "free"...
