Anybody know if there is a site online where you can view navigational charts for the Columbia, Willamette, and MC? I have surfed a bit but only found ones you have to buy. I'm really not interested in paying $35-$40 for one. I mainly just want to check out general bottom structure. I would probably buy one however if the price was more like $10-15. Anybody in the know for a free or cheap chart? Thanks a bunch.

You could try Maptech. Not sure if it will have the detail you are looking for.

Check out MarinePlanner.com for lower cost charts than Maptech. Single charts are $8.95 or if you buy 10 then the price drops to about $4.50.
I have been looking but not purchased any of the charts, as yet.
Keep in mind that the published charts are as much as 20 years old. Only by assembling all the revisions published by the Coast Guard as "Local Notice to Mariners" can you have a map that's reliable. The Coast Guard issues Local Notice to Mariners as frequently as 2ce a week for the Columbia river. You can get a sense of what they are all about by clicking HERE for Local Notice to Mariners - District 13. (http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/lnm/d13/default.htm) They're very detailed ... gives new meaning to the phrase Local Knowledge.

Hey there. I went ot the Oregon Stateb University library and found all kinds of nautical charts. I have gotten them copied at the same library, same size as the chart for about $5.00. They did all the copying. I just droppede off the map numbers from an index and they did all the work. Can't beat a deal like that.
