I was looking into puting a hand wash system in my sled using the kicker water release. I have a Mercury fourstroke kicker.
Can anyone help me with some info on how to hook up the hose to the water release on the kicker or are there any good sources out there for this?
Thanks for the help.

Don't know how it's hooked up to the outflow, but Rippenlips' boat has a handwasher hooked up. The water coming out of the merc 2stroke kicker is nice and toasty. On a cold day, it hurts to wash your hands in the steaming hot water.

First of all, most newer kickers will have a thermostat. If they don't they should. The motor will not lubricate properly if it does not warm up.
Watch when you start it up, if it takes a minute or two for water to run out, you have a thermostat.
All you need to do for a hand wash is have a reservoir that you run a rubber hose into then the reservoir drains to the creek.
I just built an aluminum box that sits in the tray on my transom with a drain hose (3/4") that keeps the water about 2" from the top. Whole thing is about 6"X10" wide and about 14" high. There's an angle bracket that clips around the transom. At the end of the day, I pull it up and dump it out.
No mods to the motor, just extend the hose.
If you need a photo, post back and I'll take one next week.

is the water coming out on a 2 stroke scent free? i would be paranoid the of the smell if you are baiting up.

My brother did this with his 8hp 2stroke Merc and it works great. Yes, he had to put a thermostat on it first. I'll try to get him to post how he hooked up the tube.

I see a lot of these on Merc's but how do you get a hose attached to a 9.9 Honda? There is nothing to stick it on.

You could always tap the hole and put a n.i.pple in it, put in a T and a hose going into your boat. This way you could direct the water to wash or just to spill out as normal.

Fish On there is a little nub that the water comes out of. What all do you hit if you start drilling through that? There must be a better way? I am sure that would void warrany.
GRB, I would be interested in seeing some pics. If you get the time they will be greatly appreciated. THanks, jb

I heard today that you could place a "T" splitter after the thermostat and then connect a small hose to the "T". Then hook the other end of the hose to the wash bin. This would give you the warm water for the wash that comes out of the thermostat.
Does anyone know if that is the correct method or do you have any other ideas?

Great ideas, sounds like Motion Marine should make a wash basin that attaches to the side of the boat  to along with all of their other attachments.

You need to drill and tap one of the freeze plugs and take the water directly from the engine. Call Stevens and they can walk you through it.

beave,
I went to an auto supply store and bought a hose connector and a piece of hose. I then connected them to the water output hose. The water now flows into the water reservoir in the kicker motor mount. It's nice and hot since I also installed a thermostat in the motor.
Sounds like you are on the right track.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">I've wondered about this too. I used to use the tell-tale on my 2-stroke Merc to thaw out frozen prawns. They also got a healthy dose of scent, but I wonder if it could have affected my catch rate.
There shouldn't be any combustion gases in the water if the motor's OK, but you never know what else could be in it after passing through the powerhead.

Hot box or hot tube... lot's of uses...........
with a thermostat on your kicker it'll warm up
my '97 merc 9.9 4 stroke would run at 165 degrees and my '03 merc 8 hp 2 stroke runs at 155 degrees...this water go's thru water jackets in engine ...not the exhaust...it has no smell.....nice on a cold day... throw in a couple cans of soup or clam chowder for 30-40 minutes ... warms then up nicely

O.K., Lets see the pics.
Will this work with a 4 stroke Honda Kicker?
Maybe I just found a way to keep my breakfast Burritos warm....
Cool....

I have a Yamaha 8hp 4 stroke. It has a fresh water flush. If I diconnect the fresh water flush from the mount while the engine is running water comes out. The only problem is the water isn't warm. I have been thinking of doing the very same thing. I just need some warm water. I might see if the water heats up after running the motor a while. :hoboy:
