I was just wondering for all the boat owners out there, how many salmon do you think were caught on your boat last year. I never really worked last year and had a lot of time and guest on my boat I would say the number of salmon caught on my boat was in the range of 150 to 200 fish. Which includes a few 20 or better day's C&R in the ocean...............Chris

I bought a brand new one last summer. Ive just named her "Nimpkish". I took her out 5 days, total. So i can give a very good guess. Two of us fished buoy 10 two days and landed three. Then, three of us went out into big blue and had two great days, we landed around 30 each day. Next we fished the bridge at Astoria . I landed a 36 lb tullie (yuck) and a 30 lb.bright.
So, ill say i landed 50 or 60 fish in 5 days... Good way to loose her verginity. id. p.

Have to agree with C&E about the 2001 season. I would have to say that year my boat caught close to 500 salmon. The Coho fishing was awesome.................Chris

Not nearly enough. But isn't that always the case. However, she (the boat that is) caught a good variety. Trout, Bass, Shad, Steelhead, Salmon, Sturgeon, and maybe even a junk fish here and there.

Why do you suppose Kevray did not give us a number of fish??????
Just kidding Kev, maybe you'll do better this year!
Actually some really nice sturgeon were caught out of his boat, just too big to keep!

Last year wasn't a very good year for my boat. Seemed like it was always 'should have been here yesterday' syndrome. :hoboy:
We put about 10 springers up in 6 or so days of fishing. About 8 summer steelies from the Columbia, only two hatchery fish. And yes, only ONE fall nook. Got completely skunked on keeper sturgeon, which was a first for us last year.
This year is already starting out better with two keeper sturgeon and getting ready for springers.

5 trips
0 Salmon
3 Steelhead
Don’t feel sorry for me though, I averaged nearly my limit in the Ocean last year, but that was in someone else’s boat.
Amazingly, even with the mediocre returns, my steelhead numbers are way better this year. I've learned a lot and I’m catching fish when nobody else is, so hopefully I’ll get salmon in the DB this year.

Really didn't catch any really big numbers. One memorable weekend- 14 Peelers and 6 keepers 44"-60". You want to talk about a tired crew on Sunday evening!

Last year was my first year since the late 80's that I really got back into fishing. With that said, here's my approx. number's:
70-80 Chinook/Coho mix
5 Halibut
150+ Flounder/Sole mix
40-50 Crab
100+ Trout
various other species
This year will be a considerable increase ...
Humpy C&R should be a hoot

That's a tough one. Let's see I got my boat in late fall and I wasn't keeping track of everyone else's catch but if I would have to guess I would say about 12 coho and 30 Nooks and that was about 8 trips. That boat has never been skunked, I love it. I've only had the boat out once this year and my friend caught two nice steelies, what was his name? oh ya it was you.
Thanks for keeping the skunk off, I don't need it.

Several 50 fish days but I didn't keep track. I think Straydog and me did 35 the day I took him out. Just a guess but I'd say 350-400.
Didn't do real good on the chinook or coho in my boat but in Nerta's we got 19 coho on the best day, only two without fins.

Oh fishingsecond,
Your math is a little off-as you are only counting the fish that were caught when you where in the boat. And a little water will never hurt anyone.

Kevray,
All the others were just stories......where are the pictures???? Do you think I would believe a couple of fishermen like you guys????? Remember I have seen you fish, and not catch!
And a little water is good, a wave over the side at bouy 10 at 6:30 in the morning sucks! Especially if it's my side of the boat and I'm not wearing rain gear!

Not as good as 2001. Probably 10 chinook and 100 coho. We had several days where only 1 in 10 coho were fin clipped. Looking forward to this year.

CATCH AND EAT
02-13-2003, 12:19 AM
3 steelhead graemlins/dork.gif ( I did better in one day from the bank), 13 keeper Springers, 5 Native springers, 7 fall chinook in the river b10 area, 25 or so ocean nooks (most were released) and about 200 plus Coho, maybe even more.
Now 2001 was a different story, you could just about double the salmon numbers.
Now if you don't believe me I can provide witnesses and testimony to the fact.

I did however bank about 75 salmon all but about 15 were coho. I only kept 7 of the salmon I landed. 3 springers, 3 coho, and 1 fall chinook.

ONE.
Just One Chinook in the boat (Trask River)
Many steelhead trout however, met their "hatchery maker." (21 keepers last year)
All my coho & dog were from the bank. (8 last year).
Maybe I need a bigger boat?

I am still looking for a job that would at least give me weekends off in the fall and late summer. I only got out 2 times when the fall fish were running.

Last season was the first with a boat, we caught about 5 kings out of wheeler, in three trips. I plan on increasing that substantially this year to include other venues etc.

Oh ya, about 300 crab. had one weekend when we got 135 out of nehalem bay.

Darn it! I forgot to add my three trips to Hoodsport for chum's. Please add another 50 or 60 to the total. Chum are a salmon species even though they are the Doggy ones.
Also caught countless sturgeon, trout, squaw fish, sea bass, flounder, poegy's, 1 abandoned anchor system, and cross anchored 2 persons of "some" respect (fishin Eddie). Did I mention how much sea grass I caught in T-bay?
2002 was a good year, 2001 was much better and I am looking forward to the festivities this year. Enough already, lets go fishing!!!!! graemlins/idea.gif

Last year was the best yet with about:
60 Chinook
20 Silvers
And since others are listing the total catch:
2 Steelhead
30 Trout
50 Crab
50 Perch
5 Blue gill
Best year probably due to lack of work and good salmon runs.

According to my records for 2002 :
96 springers ( 18 fish day at Bonneville helped a lot)
78 steelhead summers and winters
103 fall nooks ( astoria really made these numbers big)
56 cohos (didn't ever make it outside to get
these up)
I blanked on sturgeon for 3 trips. Only was skunked for 6 days out of 90 for the year.

24 Kokanee for the year.
My wife landed the first and the most Kokanee to break in my boat last spring at Odell. That means brownie points.
After that, 110 hours on the engine, 30 hours on the kicker for the Upper Willamette, Lower Umpqua and Lower Siuslaw.
I'm learning motor boat techniques after years with the drift boat. I'm startin' to pull plugs solo now and I'll need more fishing buddies from ifish to get this Barge bloody.

I dunno...I lost count. But one "triple"of URB's
one day will never leave my memory!!
Probably over 100+ nookies to the boat...not that many steelies....my willingness to sit it out for steelies is waning with my old age, I guess.

It would not be polite to mention the number of salmon that were put in my boat this year, the important thing is that I managed to keep most of them off my tag!
I can only eat so many by myself and I would prefer to put someone who is still new to this game into a nice fish.

Started off the year w/ :
300+ kokes for four trips
55 ocean salmon for five trips(19 nooks and 36 coho)
47 fall nooks for seven trips
Do not fish springers or up river salmon, can catch enough fish for my family and friends other times. Did not steelhead fish, at all. graemlins/berry.gif
As Crabbait said.
My Dad had a great time in July and I sent enough fish home (Maui) to keep everyone happy!!
Not a bad year for the limited time I fished
with a new boat.

A bunch, Not enough, The memorable ones though,1. The Coho that unhooked himself on the front window then bounced off the front deck. Used the windsheild wiper to remove the slime.
2. The wild Coho that jumped into the back of the boat, unhooked himself, followed by the Chinese firedrill scene trying to get him back out of the boat.

Loaded question.....I used a boat to get to alot of spots but only caught 1 salmon last year from a boat. Bank total for me and my two oldest sons (estimate) were 75 spring/summer salmon, 25 summer steelhead, 25 winter steelhead, 50 fall chinook(99% Tules) and 75 coho. Between the three of us we tagged 52 salmon/steelhead. Alot of fish were native, alot of darkies and released several springers/summers fishing for summer steelhead when the river was closed to all salmon retention. Did 9 June hogs in one tide.
I never kept a log. I'm tracking this year. So far this year fishing 7 days I've hit 7 coho (no lie, got pics), 2 winters and 1 springer. Out of those 10 fish, 8 were native.
All fish last year were fresh water except 1 fall chinook.
I think this year will be even better!
