My steelhead catching memories are fading fast....where would YOU fish this weekend for a CATCHING experience?

To stay away from the crowds I would fish the N Santiam. The river is a little high but it is fishable.Mostly non-clipped but I was suprised with a very fresh early summer run on the 23rd of January. There have been a couple others caught also.Hopefully a sign of another banner run this year.
Also Bob Lusk wanted me to tell that we rebuilt the Stauber boat slide the other day.So the glass boats can launch again.
Good luck IGGIE

I think the N Santiam is still to high right now. Might be fishable early next week.

Fish the NF Alsea below the bridge. You will avoid the crowd and find some good holding water down there.
Follow the trails along the river and you will be able to hit quite a few good holes down there.

The North santiam is pretty high up near Gates. Not much chance of getting a drifter in where we fish, but the water is up pretty good as of last night. Didn't look too awful bad for fishing though!

Good Luck

I drive over the santiam at jefferson 4 days a week 4 times a day to and from work. If you are good at fishing in light colored chocolate milk then be my guest.

The river is on the drop but it isn't dropping that fast. I don't think i would waste my time but that is just me.

I have a buddy that starts fishing it hard here soon for steelies and early springers and he hasn't even given it a thought yet since it is so high.

Just my .02

Aye, we've been watching the NF of the Santiam too -- I'm thinkin they must be letting water out since it doesn't seem to have gone down more than a couple inches since we began drying out late last week.

We headed to the Alsea this morning bright and early -- saw 1 fish taken all day and neither of us had a hit. I've gotta work all night tomorrow or I'd be beggin to head back over tomorrow

Maybe next weekend..lookin like we're going to stay dry this week too, last I saw.
