Sweet

Don't you just live for that hookset that peels 10 yards or so of line right out from under your thumb graemlins/hearton.gif

Thanks for the report.

Had a great day just down the Columbia from KP yesterday, 2-1-03. Took three friends and were anchored by 8. By 1, we had four keepers, 42, 43, 50 and 51  Released the 42. The 50 & 51 were the first keepers for two of the people. The best part was the biggest fish was caught by the one woman on the boat (as always). She set the hook and the fish just started peeling line. She yelled "what do I do, what do I do?". To watch her bring that fish in is what fishing is all about  .
The boat next to us had similar results. Weather was real nice, even a rainbow thrown in. Not a lot of debris in the Willamette, although there were a couple times where a big pile of brush and logs would come down. Launched at Cathredral Park with no problem. Used fresh Sandy smelt, just a short ways below KP. Lots of boats around, so I don't think I've found a secret spot.

Could only get the first picture to upload. On the second picture, wouldn't bring it up  Well, at least you get to see the best one.

More pics from our trip. This fish did some nice acrobatics.

Here is my fish. Not quite as big, but only my third ever keeper and I'm quite excited with a fish like this.

And here is a picture of the whole group, so you know I'm not just passing around the same fish and taking pics. That's my boat, pretty easy to see out on the water. Say hi if you ever see me.

A few details about the trip for those who are new to it like myself. This was my third trip to KP. Wound up using 12 oz of lead and we were anchored just inside the main current. Used a suggestion to stomp on the bait, which worked quite well on 2 of 4 rods, so we used it on all. Rather than dirty the boat and make our shoes slick, worked out to make small cuts in the smelt. This also helped to keep the bait on the hook/leader better than mashing it up. Tried some Sturgeon Feast scent sometimes, didn't seem to make much difference. We had four boats in a row with mine closest to shore. We fished the transition from 40' of water to 60' of water, so about 50-55'. Boat next to us did real well too. Outer two boats looked a little slower. Plus they received the brunt of the debris. We also anchored about 150 yards below some other boats. That way I could watch them for any trouble for logs. I have now fished for sturgeon 6 times and have gotten 4 keepers each on 2 of the trips, all other trips were shakers only. I'm beginning to think you are either anchored on bigger fish or shakers. Hope this info helps someone.

Doesn't that ride back to cathedral seem awful short when you got a boat full of nice keepers? Slutgoddess, you watching all these killer sturgeon reports? Where's yours graemlins/eek13.gif
