Was thinking about going smelting on the Cowlitz today. Has anyone been up there this morning.

I am hoping to find out if it worth the trip or not.

Thanks
Pete

Im looking for a report also. And is the limit the same in Washington? I believe Oregon is about 3/4 of a 5 gallon bucket. Ive never dipped them myself and can do with out a ticket! And do you need a WA fishing liscense to dip???

Thanks

About a quarter of a bucket is about right. What I do is weigh the empty bucket then keep weighing it as if fills up.

We also decided to go. Only get one other person to go so we were only able to get 2 limits. It took less than 15 minutes.

Just got back with 3 limits. Started on the East side of the river. Not much bank space and we were the only guys that spoke English. Went across the Bridge to the other bank and dipped under the green bridge. 3 limits in 15 minutes! Thanks for the tips guys

Location Location Location was the key today. Seven people 1 net. The first limit took an hour moved across the river and the second limit took 5 dips the third, fourth and fifth limit took 2 dips the sixth and seventh took 3 dips. Altogether 7 limits in 1 1/2 hours with the first limit taking an hour.

Jett'in Fool mentioned the location that worked for us today. Exit 39 go left at the top of the exit. Before going across the bridge make a right and smelt right below the old green bridge.

Still time tonight!

Just got back easy limits if your in the right place. If your in the wrong place you'll only get about 5 or 6 a dip. If your in the right place two dips and your done. You just have to walk on the bank and keep dippin' until you find the honey hole   ................Chris
