Has anyone used this fishing line for Steeleis/Salmon? I was at Griggs in Pasco, WA. and noticed it. It supposedly disappears under water and has virtually no memory and minimal line stretch. It has been on the market since 1935 but this is the first time I have seen it. What are your toughts? Thanks.

I've used McCoy line Sammy--mostly in the larger sizes for trolling leader (30-40#) and had absolutely no complaints.
I have used it occasionaly for steelies/springers in the rivers as well. I don't remember having any trouble.
It is an economical line, made in America (Washington State I think), that will do a pretty good job of keeping fish attached to your hooks/leaders.
I would rate it in the same class as Ande for durability and stretch. Be careful if you are using Maxima leaders, as McCoy is rated for what the package says (I think it is IGFA approved). Maxima is always a couple pounds tougher than listed, so 12# McCoy and 10# Maxima (especially chameleon) don't work well together.

When starting out in my early twenties, (many moons ago) I used nothing but McCoys mean Green Mono....It was, and I'm sure still is, a Quality fishing line at a Quality LOW price. I have caught more fish and made more memories using it, than i can recall. With low stretch, high abrasion, and low memory. I used 10# 15# and 20# for all my fishing, Steelhead, Coho, Nooks, Bass, Walleye, Panfish, Catfish, trout...well you get the Idea. I don't see it as much as i used too, And I to do still use it when I have it for leaders. It is perhaps on a scale of 1 to 10 Ande being a 9, i would also give it a 9. Leaving 10 for Maxima, and Trilene, etc. Well thats my 2 cents, Buy a spool and see what you think...My line of choice today is nothing but Ande. And 80lb tough for gators.

Thanks for the replies. I picked up a 250 yard spool just to try something different. I also use Ande primarily with Maxima Ultra green for leaders. Ande is my favorite and you cant beat the price but at the same time, I am always up for trying something new. Ande is cheaper than mean green but it appears mean green has less stretch, etc. Will give it a go on my upcoming Grande Ronde trip and see how I like it. Thanks again for the replies.

You can't go wrong with McCoy, especially on spinning reels. It is a very limp line with very little memory. It actually isn't made in Washington anymore. I believe they moved to Arizona or New Mexico. If you're at Griggs again, check to see if they have Yosuri Hybrid in yet. It is awesome stuff. See ya on the Ronde if it ever comes back into shape.

I used the line for the first time last year - mostly for leader material for springers and fall run kings. I used the 30# line and never lost a fish due to breakage. I caught a 34, 35, and 37# URBs on the stuff tied to 50# Berkley Whiplash. I like the durability of the line - it's also fairly limber. I will be using it again this year! I prefer it over any other line I've used in the past.

I would have to disagree with FSHKLR about it being low stretch. From my experience with it in the 6,8, and 10lb lines, it has a very high amount of stretch. This is why it acts as such a good shock absorber with braided line. Just my opinion.

Diehard D,
Looks like the ronde is droping like crazy. Will probably be fishable in the next 2-3 days if the weather holds. High water should be pushing the cottonwood fish into the river anytime. I think I am going to hit it at a great time. Should be another outstanding fishing weekend. Granted the fish aren't in very good shape but it sure is fun to catch and release lot's of steelies no matter what shape theyare in.
