It seems that the majority of the fishing shows on TV are either bass fishing or flyfishing for trout, and I have a hard time really getting into them. Perhaps it's because I can't relate them to the NW fishing scenes. I would like to know if I'm missing any good fishing shows on TV that are pertinent to our fishing styles here, so let's hear your favorites!

check this out, there is a show on public access called Hot Tamale. Its an oregon, or nw based show on fishing. occasionally they show steelheading on local rivers. i dont think there is any rhyme or reason when they broadcast but it is kind of cool. graemlins/idea.gif

North to Alaska is a pretty good show. Larry Zonka (sp?), ex Miami Dolphin hosts it. Mostly cover salmon fishing. Its on the outdoor living network on satelite, and on fox sports west I believe on satuday around 9am.

I don't like the bass fishing shows. I do like Trout Unlimited and Fly Fish TV and find they do, but not routinely, add insight to somewhat nearby waters. It would be great to have a local fishing show for Steelhead, Salmon, and sturgeon like year's past....maybe a public tv/cable access? Jennie to host?

I will put a second in for American Outdoor Journal with Trey Carskadon on Sunday mornings at 9:30am. The majority of his stuff is NW meaning Washington, Oregon, Idaho, BC, & Alaska. Only problem is that it is only a half hour. There is another fishing show out there called Fisherman's Heaven (I think that is the name) from a couple of guys from Washington that airs on KVOS (Washington channel) at some odd times. I have not seen it because I do not get the channel(s) but I hear it is great. Mostly local fishing for Steelies, Salmon, Halibut, Sturgeon.

Anyone seen that show that is hosted by the two women

The show hosted by two women is called "Fishing with Shelly and Courtney". I do not know if it has a specific time slot, but it can sometimes be seen on channel 406 on ATT Broadband. It is called the Outdoor Channel.

WOW!

I just saw and you all missed "Fish On" on ESPN2. It has not one, not two, but three young bikini clad babes and some designated handsome hunk who fish where they can wear said attire.

This morning they fished out of Kona for Blue Marlin, next week it is in the Florida Keys.

Even the Logo looks like something out of "Charlie's Angels"! Three silhouettes in bikinis holding saltwater rods!

Check this one out! They actually were knowledgable and did a good job, if I remember correctly. I think. graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Just as an example, they did a good job explaining how, with one blonde in the fighting chair, that landing a big fish like a Blue Marlin was a total team effort. They then had the butt cam panning from behind the other two and the dude, who were "steering" the swivel chair toward the direction the fish was swimming - an important task no doubt that must have required all of them to participate! Impressive photography.

Sunday mornings at 8 it seems...

I am watching Fly Fish on OLN right now which has Jim Teeny fishing for steelhead in AK. The thing that turns me off with so many of these celebrity shows are that the shows are so chock full of ads promoting their own products/lodged/services etc. and seem short on genuine education and adventure.

i've only caught one hot tamale show which was jig fishing on the wilson river. but i was pretty impressed with the info given. the show featured first cast jigs and a nice 15 lb buck caught in april.

I really like Csonka's show, North to Alaska. The Shelly and Courtney show is ok, but I guess the one that I've enjoyed the most over the long haul is Babe Winkleman's show. He can be a bit flaky at times, but his show is entertaining, for the most part.

America's Outdoor Journal is my favorite, then Shelley and Courtney, (mon. evenings at like 7 or 7:30?). I saw a show a few weeks ago called Reel Adventures(?) or something on a typically non-outdoor channel, with these two dudes trying to out-fish each other. It was sort of a reality- style show......definately different. My least favorite is the Dimestore Fishermen.........absolutely brutal..........

the best show by far is fish on! with the three bikini clad models and if you watch your tv guide, ronnie covak just shot a show on the wilson and trask I believe for steelhead, should air in about a month the show is actually called ronnie covaks fishing expeditions

My fantasy show would be for JENNIE to host a summer steelhead show with some hot guys wearing shorts and no shirts.

In terms of variety and educational value, my favorite fishing show is In-Fisherman with Al and Ron Lindner. They seem to offer a little more of a scientific approach to fishing various species at different locations. However, they too are loaded with sponsor product endorsements.

Was a huntin show with two guys with the big mondo ford truck. Was a local show, I enjoyed that one. Wonder what happened to them?

No Question...the Best show out there is the Hot Tamale Show

Well, I'll be the first to admit that it's Production Quality needs some help, but I certainly haven't received any negative comments about commercials taking up too much of the "value" of the show....since there AREN'T any! (Not sure there's a whole lot of value either) But what the heck, we're having fun, right??

Things ARE changing however...New Name, new Logo, new website (soon), new Channel, and best of all, new editing techniques which will be on par, if not better than, allot of the shows out there..(Just my opinion).

We plan on having this new line-up of shows "on the air" by late Spring, if all goes as planned. And yes, it will be on Cable, Satellite, and your traditional Rabbit Ears. Channel is TBD.

More to Follow

I have caught the Tamale, and it was a good show. However, that Courtney with the cute canadian accent runs a close second

the show with the two women blows, hot tamalie is ok. Infisherman is a good all around show, Babe Winkleman, grew up near him ( a very nice guy, very smart) has an ok show, but to date, I have yet to see a show on a regular basis that deals with the NW fishing. Infisherman has done some stuff on Columbia Walleyes.. thats about all i can Recall. Anyone Interested in starting a show? Doesn't take much, really, just some smarts, personality and some free time, and dedication.

I would have to agree with Scott about the HTOS. Hope to see more of it in the future
BTW did anyone see the show where that big doofus...can't remember his name right now...something like Big Lew  caught that chinook on a jig? Oh brother what a klutz  Catches this fall chinook then falls down the riverbank!
Devilishly handsome brute though

CATCH AND EAT
02-03-2003, 04:31 PM
#1 North to Alaska
#2 Americas Outdoor Journal
#3 In Fisherman
#4 Hot Tamale  cable access
#5 Columbia Country cable access

Worst: Fish On :hoboy: Come on Hogmaster, "they actually knew what they were talking about"? Maybe you had your mind on the bikinis or breast implants. Women in waders okay. But Fish On? Please, someone pull the plug or change the channel to something a little more reality based like the WWE.   I'd rather watch that fat head Mark Sosa's Saltwalter Journal. Plus his show would keep me out of the dog house.

BTW, Hot Tamale Scott, put some shows on the air. Last one I saw had Stew in it.

Stew,

That show would be called "Fish ON...Fall Down" or maybe..."Fishing on the FALL River"

Snowman, I wish you were right on how easy it is putting a decent show together, but unfortunately it's not. The editing alone, to truly put together a "class" show, takes HOURS, literally. We're into our "Pilot" easily 120 Hours, not including 2 days of fishing/filming. I know for fact, that in order to make a show similar to that of America's Outdoor Journal, you're talking a $20,000 per show budget... Shows similar to Shelley and Courtney are much cheaper to produce but it really comes down to the editing, which either makes or breaks the bank.

That doesn't make any sense!

Why would any producer put on some bikini-clad blonde bombshell on their fishing show? Do they actually think that any fisherman would fall for such obvious sex appeal?

Bernie Bernie Bernie,

You said it all:

Plus his show would keep me out of the dog house <font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">She stood over your shoulder to watch you write those things, eh?

No, I found their knowledge and ability to convey it extrordinary! Like, one of them said something about a reel or something. I think.

Scott, since you are going thru a redo, you might want to consider a segment on tree casting. C&E should offer continual good footage!

Sorry Catch and Eat, I'm with Hog on this one. I watched the show this weekend and enjoyed it. They knew what they were doing and they showed off the island very well. I''v seen it several times and they have never had a bad show. Maby not the best but better than Csonka's show for sure.

You aren't a real fisherperson if you haven't searched out the Hot Tamale Outdoors Show staring Ifisher and NW steelheader Scott Kappes with his trusty side kick with the papa smurf gloves Gizmo. I have met both and are hands down REEL fisherman and great guys to boot. The only time I have found HTOS is everyother MON @ 9:00 p.m. Keep it up Kappes.
Mon nights are all around for good fish shows ODCH #405 is all fishing all evening. Give it a look.

Offshore Adventures! Just did a series on Elfin Cove, Pelican and Deer Harbor (where I fished with the fleet in the 70's). Pretty good fishing show/

Hog, Tree CASTING graemlins/berry.gif You got a problem with festive decoration along the river front. Actually most fisherpersons like those decorations as it denotes the HOT SPOT where Catch And Eat has been. I don't think Scott would be interested in doing a show like that anyways since he has already been there with Stew and the Water Ballet Brigade.

I did watch the Fish On show with the wife once. She said it was kind of like watching one of those reality programs like "Elimadate". I explained to her that at least they were fishing. She then said "do ya see much of that on the Willamette near Hogmasters house?" I told her no and that if I ever saw Hogmaster in a bikini I would quite fishing and focus on Honey'do's.

Sorry everyone. That's an ugly picture.
