I bought a really old fiberglass Sturgeon rod today from a great old guy. The thing has wood grips and an old Penn No. 49 reel with steel line. It has rolling guides and the thing must weigh 10 pounds or more. To me it is a thing of beauty. I just love the old stuff. Question is could I use it? I bought it to hang on the wall, but now I am wondering if it is still some thing to fish with. Same guy also sold me a 14 or 15 foot surf rod with an old reel as well. I had to tie it to the roof of my truck to get it home. It is all one piece.

Sounds like a great find. Did you get any tackle with it?

It is all rigged to fish. I have no idea how old the leader is, but the hook has a barb. He gave me some lead weights that are 32oz. He was a bit vauge about where he used to fish...
