Fished from T-6 to Red Barn today, enjoying the favorable tide and near perfect winter weather. The bite was kind of slow, but consistent on fresh smelt with secret sauce. Nice to meet Fisher-Price at the launch and fishingfirst on the river. Looked like fishingfirst was putting on a slow motion clinic. Several of the dozen fish I caught will be legal size by tomorrow ... but no hangers today. :depressed:

An interesting side note. While anchored in the flats above the Kelly Point corner hole, a Foss barge (I think that's the company, but I'm not sure right now) told me over their loud speaker than they would be moving an auto transport ship in about half an hour and suggested that I move. I can't tell you how much I appreciated the advance notice. It's the first time in years of fishing that area that I've ever gotten any communication other than a last minute "get outta da way!".

Fished with fishchaser today up in the gorge just off of Multnomah Falls. We caught at least 35 to 40 shakers. We also released 2 fat 42 inchers (at 42 I'm not going to chance keeping it). Tracy did land a nice fat 45 incher.
We might have got another keeper but we ran out of bait about 2:30.

Hey Pete...we were out there as well, in the "bowl" all day. Heard the jabbering over the loudspeaker, couldn't tell what he was saying, but that's really cool that he did!

Know what you mean about the "almosts". First fish to the boat was a 41.5 incher, that was heavier than any fish under 48 inches I've ever caught!! What a pig. Lots of other shakers, got one more later that was 41 inches. Looked like maybe one keeper per 2 boats where we were at. Action was steady enough we didn't bother moving.

As a side note...please, people, it's not necessary, with that many boats, to pull your anchor bouy ON PLANE!! I suspect the guilty person will be reading this, as he had an IFISH sticker. About swamped the little glass boat(not me) next to you when you took off!!

TR

BTW, there was not as much junk in the water as I expected, although there were two huge hazards, one a large tree, another looked to be part of a building!! Watched one of the tugs guide the tree out of all the boats just by using his thruster engines...pretty impressive driving!!

St. Helens area. Courthouse docks- all undersize fish caught as of apx. 1:30 today. sand Island looks like she's about ready to under! Pixie Park Hole- 1 boat that gave up rather easily, with no keepers. Downstream tip of Sauvie Island- About 6 boats stacked. But, too far to see and no personal reports. Below and backside of Shell Island- about 3 boats spent the entire day. Might have been having keeper-success, or they just had the family sized bag of Doritos from Costco.

Well another great day. It was nice meeting you Pete. We put in at 42nd St. and ran down to Kelly point, lots and lots of debris in the water, looked like the old log rafts down in Coos Bay! Anyway, we caught our usual 50 fish, only this time I got schooled by the rookies, I only had seven fish for the day. I was fishing on the side of the boat that Pete anchored on.........might have to take that into consideration next time. We had several close enough to measure, but no keepers. We fished until dark then had a heck of a time finding the boat ramp, this was the first time I have launched there.....now we are ready for the Derby on the 1st.

Good luck to everyone, this month should be fantastic!

Please be safe and courteous out there.

Scott
