View Full Version : Another anchor question

I was wondering what size anchor line most people use. I use 1/2" for my 300' line. I like the way it helps hold the anchor because of the extra drag causing a big belly, creating more horizontal pull. But sometimes it pulls my bouy under. Could I get some opinions on the subject?
Not to sound like I'm mocking you, but get a bigger buoy. I think you have the right idea though.

Mojo is right, you know. The bouy going under is not from the chain or line up from the bottom. It is from the heavy current flow on top. You need to get a bigger float to prevent that from happening...
OK, maybe a thinner diameter line would make less bow or weight, but not much, and the thinner lines are much tougher on the hands.
PS - And make no mistake about it, for Mojo and I to agree on something is really something!
PPS - For all who might wonder, yes, that prior sentence IS gramatically correct!

I use 250' of 3/8" rope. My boat is a 17½' Alumaweld Stryker so it's pretty light. I haven't had any problems, yet, staying put.

For Salmon I use 200' of 3/8" then the bouy w/ puller, and a 35' tag of 3/8" from bouy to the boat and a small float to keep the rope afloat when out w/ a fish!! For Sturgeon I use 300' of 3/8" and the rest is the same as Salmon set-up.
