Newby here, here's my story. Summer of '97 I'm working as kitchen mgr in AK at a little resort at Denali natl' park. 7 days a week all summer. Well the boss is pleased and hooks me and the gen mgr on a fishing trip w/ his buddy out of Valdez. We go Halibut fishing, and do quite well, limit out in about 2 hours on fish up to ~65#. The boat owner, a fella named Micky has been tossing back the brews all morning and is quite well oiled. When we bring the last fish in, he teels me to start bringing the previous 'buts in off the stringers they are on off the transom. I undo the first stringer, a length of that yellow nylon rope (foreshadowing...) and haul the top fish in, it's the biggest ofthe day. I hand the stringer to Micky and say, "Here Micky, hold the stringer." As I said Micky is feeling no pain and is all pumped up because he is a new boat owner and had never gotten this may 'buts before. Once I get the fish into the box I turn and go to get the next one to see that Micky isn't holdning any lines, only a brew. I dash to the transom just in time to see a 50# halibut swirling down into the inky depths railing 12' of yellow nylon rope. I look at Micky, disgustedly, and he says, and I quote, "Well, that's not exactly what I'd Catch and Release."
Thanks for the Warm Welcome I know I'll get.
Tight lines boys.

A little scary when the skipper is drunk.

Welcome aboard.

Welcome aboard, stevo. Sorry to hear of the lost fish. Moderation is not only a good idea, it is the law when Captaining a vessel. Glad to hear you survived your time with a reckless skipper.

I never let my skipper get too drunk. Of course a nip now and then won't hurt. :hoboy: MODERATION. graemlins/dork.gif

Welcome Stevo. Sorry about the lost halibut, but I would rather lose a fish than take a swim because of an over indulged skipper.
