I was informed that I was supposed to write a story, since I don't really have any I will give you something from my younger brother which I don't believe...

I guess he was out drift fishing on the South Santiam last year, keep in mind he had never caught a steelhead before this, and he hooked into something he thought was a snag. I guess he was getting good at catching those rock fish... anyway he ended up hooking a fish, but when he got it to the boat he had hooked the eye of someone else's corkie rig up which evidently someone else had broken off above the swivel. I don't believe him to this day, but there were two other friends there who swear to the story... has anyone ever heard of that? Or is my brother full of it?

Anyway, I plan on fishing the Kalama Friday, anyone got any tips?

Years ago my dad lost a salmon on the Trask river, a 1/2 hour later I landed the same fish, my hook was in the eye of his swivel. Believe it or not!

Spring of 2001 I was Sturgeon fishing the flats above Tounge point. I got a bite set the hook landed a 48 inch Sturgeon. I didn't hook the fish but a rope about 8 feet long that the fish had through it gills. Someone had caught the fish before and tied it off. I guess it came loose. I kept the rope and turned the fish loose to fight another day.

Welcome aboard.

Welcome to IFish,

I had a similar experience steelhead fishing on the Coquille, I hooked a fish and fought it for about fifteen minutes until it broke me off. As I was re-rigging, the guy fishing next to me hooks a fish and brings it right in, I wasn't paying much attention to him........still sulking from my loss, he asks me what color corkie I was using, I look up and he had hooked the eye of my sinker, I was using a teardrop style sinker. The worst part was, it was a 21 lb nice bright steely. Fishing sucked for me that day!!!!

Landed a nice salmon by hooking through the eye of the upper hook of a broken-off solid tied double hook herring rig. Could not get the hook out of the other hook eye. Once landed a 38lb chrome fall chinook when I hooked a loop in the mono that the fish had broken off the day before (50lb Tuf!). Loop was about 8" long...any slack and that fish was gone.

Nope....never happen!

I've caught a few trout in Potholes Canal on broken off rigs. We use three cannonball split shot. They will get wrapped arond the busted off ones. Fish On!

Well, tautke787

As you can tell by all the testimonials, it can happen so I think you can believe your brother.
I also have witnessed many similar events like this, it's kinda of cool to see.
