I Have been enjoying the site for the last 8 months since moving to Portland so thought I better chip in. After reading the article on when to start your kid fishing got me to thinking if that is possible.
I sarted at the age of about 3 with my dad then my granfather took over and have not stopped since. We fished every Saturday in the Winter on the main Salmon headwaters in Idaho. The time I remember the best is the first steelhead at the age of eight. At the time not to many fish were caught that high up on the Salmon. We were fishing a big hole about 15 miles down river from Challis. Grandpa was down on the lower end and Iwas about in the middle. We were just fishing for trout. He was having a bite and could not get the hook into it. He called me down and showed me where to throw and sure enough on a single egg and that small five foot pole the earth began to move. Well we got it end and it was prbably about 6 lbs and I thought it was the king of all trout. Then granpa told me what it was and took me to town to show the whole world what his grandson had done. After learning what steelhead do and there habits I believe he new what was there and set me up. I have been hooked since and have got my boy who is 23 hooked as well. Many days on the river with family is what it is all about.
