Made my way to the CR before daylight via GPS because of the fog in what turned out to be a  of a sturgeon bite. We moved about a dozen times throughout the ebb tide with a total of 8 "small" shakers to the boat. Very frusterating day for my boat.
The highlight of the day was seeing a couple of Ifishers on the water. Dipnet, Brshooter, and Pete. The weather was great after the fog burned off. Oh well, can't hammer em every trip. Maybe next time........
I was planning to hit the area in the morning but may venture upriver to the fishery. See ya on the river........

TB that sucks!
I am heading out there tomorrow. What were you using for bait? I have fresh smelt maybe that will do the trick.
I will let you know how we did.

Can't say "slow" enough , Saw 1 keeper the whole day and very few shorts being brought to all the other boats. We made it down to OR's side of Frenchman's and up to T6 without bringing 1 to the boat. Nice January day on the water  did make up for all the anchor pulling.

Just ZaQ,
I have a full boat tomorrow but I can pretty much fish any time except for Monday. I shoud go to work on Monday, right
Getting the big tune-up, oil change and once over next week so the sled is out of service for a few days. Then the wife (real boss) is out of town Friday and Saturday so I am stuck with kid duty. Maybe I could get the boat back Wed. eve for a Thur trip, hmmmmmmm.
Shoot me your cell phone number via email and we will hook up.

Shane,
The smelt was so fresh they were almost breathing, didn't seem to help any though  I'll be out there in the morning. I will have my wife, daughter, and her buddy along so I probably won't be anchored until after nine. I'll holler foy ya on the radio. The fish were few and far between today. I personally think that a lot of the fish are down river staging for the bulk of the smelt run but what do I know graemlins/dork.gif
Any St. Helens to Cowlitz river reports? I suspect that area should be heating up right now for the sturgies graemlins/idea.gif

Chris,
I wonder about downriver too but the reports I have been reading have sounded slow. Have you tried the mouth of the Lewis? I will have the radio on. Give me I holler I will let you know if its rockin or stinkin.

Tacklebuster, nice talking to you! We ended up the same as you with 8 shakers. Three of them were in the 36" to 40" range but no :depressed: keepers. We used fresh smelt and squid. The squid outdid the smelt 5 to 3. We'll be out trying again in the morning!

fished out of Goble all up and down, in and around the hole in front of trojan. also tried off some of the wing dikes, Wa. side above longview bridge. Not much to report, 9 shakers/2 rods. Smelt, sandshrimp, smelly jelly, and various combinations thereof. Best bait - cut the smelt in half at a real sharp diagonal and tuck the hook in real good so they could fit the bait into their teeny-tiny little mouths! :hoboy:
Was really hoping to find a few more fish closer to the cowlitz, not the case. Maybe I should have followed that wild hair towards astoria?

Nice to see you out there today Tacklebuster. I guess I chose the wrong day to attend one of your sturgeon clinics.
Once the fog lifted, the day was beautiful. Someone should have told the fish to come out and play.

We fished yesterday around Trojan, 17 shakers for 3 rods on fresh smelt dipped the day before on the Cowlitz. The fish are full of smelt, bellies swollen. Best bite was above Trojan in 75'. Aye fish, was that you we met?

A belated thursday report has our boat looking pretty good. I started off late due to a license issue. finally got anchored in my T6 spot and put out baits of smelt with squid teaser. got absolutely blanked not even one shaker. Something just didn't feel right about the spot and the lack of fish, each previous time there we at least had shakers but this time nothing.
So I decided to move and went downriver off of frenchmans on the OR side and looked around with the finder for some structure. Found a likely spot with some fish on the finder, put down the same baits and was into fish almost immediately. A couple of fish were really close but the Newbie in the boat managed to get or hook 2 keepers.
really slow start but good finish to the day.

Whalerman-
Yep, that was me. Green NR. First time I've boated that area, pretty cool. Man, that's a deep spot out there in front of trojan. I could see how anchoring in that could be quite technical if the flow increased a bunch. Had a nice visit from the resident swan, taught it how to sit up and beg for sandshrimp. Nice day after the fog lifted and I could figure out where the hey I was.
See ya on the water-
