Great Dane - Going to Portugal, huh? Sounds better than Denmark in January. Anything to do with the big oil spill off the NW tip of the peninsula? BTW, are there any Atlantic salmon in northern Portugese streams?

That explains when I went to reply and it said that the topic was closed. I thougth "What on EARTH could someone have said this early in the thread?"
Notice that you were going UPSTREAM with Kilchis? Good idea, as his dog stink (sorry, can't find a better way of putting that) was going downstream, so the upstream fish wouldn't sniff him out. That helped.

Actually, Kilchis was swimming upstream of me. Sorry!

And thank you for letting me know what was wrong with me. I thought I had some winter depression going on, but I think you are onto something there. My winter blues are because I have been fishless for a long time now, AND to make matters worse, I haven't even been fishing lately. Been too busy to get out there. Now, THAT is going to have to change. This is getting serious now!

I am so giggled that I can't laugh!
I mean, I am so screamed that I can't thrill!
I'm so write I can't tickled!!!
I was fishing out back with a First Cast Jig... let me find you the pic of which one:
http://www.firstcastjigs.com/Pinkwhitebead1.jpg This one!!!
And... and... and... a shrimp tail ONLY, and and.... Well see, Bill wanted me to go fish the North Fork with him and Jim, and for some reason I just didn't. I don't feel good enough for an all dayer yet, and it felt cold, and I felt tired... and and.... anyway, I took a break, mostly cuz Kilchis (Yes, Kilchis was right there, wading upstream of me), and went down to the river, just for the heck of it.
The water is SOOOOOOO LOWWWWW! I mean, solo that you can't hear it sing at night!
So... I'm out there, right, thinking... Where shall I fish? Where would they hide?
...and I go to the deepest hole, where the water still has movement and cover, and it's deep. I set the bobber for about 7 feet, cuz it's really deep down there... Mark says to fish about a foot off the bottom.
I cast out in the opposite current seam from me, and at the tailout.... OHMYGOSHHOLDON!!!!
IT"S A FISH! Jennie's first fish of the season! I'm blessed! The skunk is over! My nightmares end!
And... and... I'm so glad I brought the pliers, cuz that's all I had! One jig, one shrimp, and a pair of pliers! So.... I see it has an adipose fin, so I'm thinking, don't play too hard, right?
But it wants to play really hard!
So, I walk upstream to get the fish into calmer water, and away from the fast current.
I tilted my rod to direct the fish, and sure enough, he follows! YAY! So good, so far.
Ever been at that point where you want to kind of horse the fish in, but you are, at the same time, wanting to land it and not break the line? Fine, fine line! (so to speak!)
So.... I wade into the water, cuz I have tennis shoes on, and I don't want to beach the beauty and get rocks and sand in her gills. (Yes, it was a jumping, flipping hen, doing cartwheels in the sky!) The water is freezing, BUT I DON'T GIVE A HOOT!
So, I wade out, and finally get the fish to hand. Take the pliers out of my mouth, (Yes, big pliers in Jennie's mouth) and I'm nervous, cuz after yesterday, seeing UG's post of the dead nate, I'm especially cautious... and I securely grab the hook and give it a quick shake. LOOSE! YES!
I'm making sure the fish has a lot of motion, and is feeling fine, and off! With a streak of lightning and a chrome goodbye, she leaves her hunter with a grin, and a scream! I reach my hands toward the sky, and actually shout out!
"YES! I Caught the steelhead!"
I stood there in shock for about 3 minutes just grinnin like a fool till I cast out again.
NO WAY! FISH ON AGAIN!!!!!!
But this one got off. I noticed my hook was just a wee bit bent. I wonder if that was it? It didn't matter.
Fished for about 15 minutes more, till I see Kilchis, who had gotten too far out in the current, and went over the falls into the hole I was fishing. Game over!
I want to tell you, I am thrilled! I was sick, and now I am healed, and I really, really believe that! I thought it was a virus that had me a bit depressed, but I now realize that it was a state of being fishless that had left me drawn with dispair!
I LOVE YOU ALL AND I LOVE TO FISH!
(I'm cursed, I know, but I never want to quit!!)

It is so fun to have you guys to brag to. I can't imagine if I was so excited to brag to you and someone started to pick me apart. I would be crushed!
Like, what if I had kept the fish, pictured it and then realized it was a nate? YIKES!
Can you imagine? YUCKO!

Great going Jennie, nothing like the first fish after a period of skunks!!!
It's almost scarry to read about you thinking your hit with a winter virus, because every year this time I get really slow, grumpy, depressed and just feel halfway sick for 1-2 weeks, but when conditions finally allow for a fishing trip and I get a fish, only then I realize that I found the cure. I gotta move to a place with a much better climate than this ******** of a country. Wish I could go to Oregon...NOW.
Well, at least I go to Portugal wednesday, but alas it's just work, no fishing.
fishing is life
