What is your preferred bait for steelhead?

Depends on several things:

1. Do I have good eggs with me?
2. Can I buy good shrimp?
3. What are other people using, is it working?
4. If it isn't working (what other people are using) I'll try something different.

I've had some great days using the one that everyone else wasn't. I've also had some great days using the same bait as everyone else.

Hard to beat sandshrimp. But late in the year I use corkie's and yarn because of the nate's

I would use sandshrimp over eggs genrally, because I just have a little better lush with them for some reason. I perfer Artic prawns because a small piece goes a long ways and the fish really have to smack it hard a cople of times to even start getting it off the hook. I have also had more success using them over other baitings.

I like the convenience of shrimp but it's hard to beat good eggs. When using a bait diver for hatchery fish I like shrimp though. One cool thing about Tillamook Bait Co. is that Marie will allow you to pick out your own shrimp  Just one more reason to see Marie for your shrimp and bait needs graemlins/applause.gif

Diver n bait...maybe a combo cocktail. Not enough options here though...prawn tail go to bait for drift fishing due availabilty, durabilty and results. Good fresh sandshrimp is steelhead candy though.
