I'm looking to buy a new fixed mount GPS for the boat. Never had one before so I have some questions. What brands are the simplest to run? DGPS vs. WAAS? Lowrance? Garmin? Chart Plotters? The list goes on, any help would be appreciated.

I have the Lowrance LMS-160 MAP. It is easy enough to work for the basic goodies and plenty of advanced features that I have yet to read up on. I am by no means an expert and just giving you an opinion on my unit.

Good luck

I have a handheld garmin 76smap and it is great in the boat/truck and on foot. To make it a fixed unit I just put it in the holdermount.. Easy and the power of this unit it awesome. Only draw back may be the screen size if you want a big screen.

I know you wanted fixed but mine works like one when its in the holder and it is truly one of the best purchases I have ever made.

The mapping abliltiy is incredible... I can load 24 mb of data on top of the preloaded data.

The unit is WAAS compatible , easy to operate and they have lots of availble accessories out for them.

Make sure to get a mapping unit they are the best and in my opinion the only way to go!!

WAAS over DGPS. No need for a second antenna, complete coverage and just as accurate if you are using the unit within the US.

You owe it to yourself to take a look at the Lowrance LCX 16Cl and LCX 15Cl ... they are apparently being replaced in the product line and I've seen packages priced $1000 and $800 below the original prices. Very powerful electronics and clearance prices.
