I was at the craft store this evening to get some needles to thread yarn through some gray backer rod I had picked up at Home Depot. While there I noticed something called Pom Poms that looked like they would work for rags. They're fuzzy balls available in 10 mm, 1/2" or 3?4". I picked up a pack of about 50 in each red and white in the 10 mm size. I plan to thread yarn through them ala rags and see what happens. If they hold up in water they should work OK. Anyone else try these?

I just bought some pom poms about a week ago. The colors look real good, but I don't think they'll float like backer rod so I think I'll use them along with some other flotation. They look really good for holding scent. I just ordered some white backer rod. The gray just didn't look as fishy to me so I didn't think I'd have as much confidence in it.

Marie - I saw the offer for white backer rod with purchase, but unfortunately, I won't be able to get over to Tillamook in the next few days. Thanks, though.

Adiboy - where did you order the white backer rod?

Yes I have white backer rod material. For anyone who comes to my bait shop will get at least 3 feet of it for free, with small purchase.

Until saturday! Then poof its gone!

Marie,
What time you open Thursday morning? The river should be good by then. Ned fresh shrimp. Thanks Tom

To put a pom pom on your line, stick a hyperdermic needle though the center of the pom pom, thread the line through the point end of the needle and pull the needle back out of the pom pom. This leaves the line right through the center of the pom pom. There is a small bent piece of wire in the middle of the pom pom that holds the whole thing together. They don't float but they are colorful and will hold scent.

Thanks Cohodependent for the inside info!

I'll save a couple of bucks and take the pom poms back before I get them wet and the store won't want to take 'em back anymore.

I didn't think pink and orange and red soft fuzzy things that float good and soak up fishy smelling stuff would work very well anyway.

The Coho really hated the small red ones on big creek. They just had to bite them hard every time they saw one, they must have been driving them nuts. Oh, the neon pink, green and chartuse pom poms would never catch a steelhead either...

I think they float a bit.

My first eagle creek steelhead took a orange pom pom and white yarn!
