On January 22 2003, ODFW will hold the first of several Hatchery Management Policy Workshops in which the public is invited to attend. It will be held at the ODFW Portland Office / Commission Room from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM

The Hatchery Management Policy (HMP) will describe the various roles of hatcheries in Oregon and identify policies and guiding principles shaping their use in fisheries management. Although this document describes the hatchery “tool” and potential uses, a companion document, Native Fish Conservation Policy and Guidelines (NFCP), determines how the tool will be applied in specific watersheds.

Anyone wishing more information on the upcoming HMP may contact George Nander / ODFW at George.F.Nandor@state.or.us

As a side note these workshops will be moderated by Jim Rapp with “For the Sake of the Salmon”. For background on him access the following link:

Thanks for posting this ***.
The NFCP is going to shape policy in some watersheds. However Measure 28 will shape policy for all watersheds! We need a yes vote!!! graemlins/1zhelp.gif

The public will be allowed to participate as well as comment. To what degree, that will be determined buy the moderator. During the NFCP, the moderator allowed the public to be part of the dialog but if you were not adding anything pertinent to the discussing she would limit your ability to comment.

This is a perfect opportunity to ask the tough questions. Both ODFW staff as well as other stakeholders like the treaty interests and the conservation people will be obliged to answer in this public forum. graemlins/applause.gif

Please note the following change…

“Due to a conflict in Ed Bowles schedule, the January 22, 2003 Hatchery Management Policy Workshop has been rescheduled to Monday, January 27, 2003. Ed was asked to attend a meeting in Washington D.C. with all the other state Fish Division Administrators.

The Workshop will still be held at ODFW Headquarters from 9am to 4pm. You will receive an agenda and some background material prior to the Workshop.

Sorry for any inconvenience this change may have caused.
