First I must send an apology to a few IFISH members (I.E. Thumper, Pete, brshooter, Mad Mikey, etc) especially Keta.....Please remove the stink!! I did not respond in a timely matter to a request that was made of me last week for a story. To those of you who responded back to my question on river conditions I am just now hitting the web again and did not receive all of the replys until today!! I decided to come back anyways and fish. Due to the rain I did not do any steelie fishing but went after Sturgeon instead. Only a few shakers if you are wondering.
Anyways.........I owe a story!! Of the many that I have I figure this one might give you a laugh.
About 10 years ago when I just started to date the lady who is now my wife, I asked my future father in law if I could borrow his boat. Although it was nothing fancy it was a brand new 18' Klamath with a 40 horse Mercury. He probaly had it out on the lake 5 times. Although I think that he wanted to say NO deep down inside, he let me use the boat anyways. He left very detailed instructions with my future mother in law on the usage of his new boat (How to-back it up, unload it, start it, heck even how to drive the darn thing). Being the young buck that I was I didn't need any instructions on how to use a boat. After all by age 20 don't you know everything that there is to know in the world? I left for the lake with the boys laughing at the fact that my future in laws did not think that I could launch a boat without detailed instructions. When we arrived at the lake I did the normal prep work that needed to be done so that we could go fishing. When I started to back that boat down the ramp is when everything went wrong!! Here was the problem I had never used an EZ loader trailer before and was not aware that the boat was on wheels instead of the normal carpeted 2X4's. The boat was disconnected from the trailer and my buddy was holding on to the only line connected to the boat. As I looked on in complete shock  I saw that the boat was going in reverse faster than I was!!! Unfortunately my first instict was to hit the brakes which sent the boat going even faster. Luckily my buddy let go of the rope or he would be fishing with one arm today. Besides for everyone on the ramp busting a gut at my misfortune I had to replace a $150 prop, do some grinding on the damaged aluminum, and admit to my future wife and in laws that I did not know everything and that I had screwed up. As I grow older I become smarter and listen to those older than me!!! graemlins/dork.gif
