State of Oregon couldn't do it,,,,,,state of Washington adds to the loss column too,,,,,guess Calif is gonna have to have try and hold up the west coast from getting bowled over.....Go USC,,,join the Bruins on the winning side......................

Oregon State- had moments of greatness then stumbled and fell.

Oregon- Stumbled out of the gate and never showed what they were capable of.

Wasnington- Biggest choke of the year. Up 17 zip then zippo!

Washington State- Watched a pretty good Oklahoma team scrimmage up and down the field.

Was the Pac 10 really that bad this year?

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">You can't be serious. Two words for you: Wake Forest.

I'm pretty sure the BIGGEST choke of the year was by a team that led 14-0, then got whipped 42-14.

I’m not Bias in the least but I do have to say the Fuskys choked worse then the Ducks  . Also the Ducks didn’t talk near as much smack as the Fuskys did before the game. Love to see Slick Rick go down in yet another Bowl loss. Have the Fuskys won a bowl game in the last 5 years? Can’t remember again I’m not Bias.

If you guys are hoping for a USC victory for the Pac 10 forget about it. Iowa will kill them come game day. The worst thing about WSU's loss to Oklahoma is we will be getting the Cougars coach next year. You can't put a Pac 10 passing coach to lead a SEC Alabama team that will pass maybe four times a decade :hoboy: I'm dreading next year for the Crimson Tide. After coming off a great season and getting most of their players to return next year, it's gonna be ugly. Oh well, look at it this way. At least the Cougs have a chance for a Rose Bowl victory now if they can ever get back to that level graemlins/dork.gif

I was really rooting for the Cougs, in the Rose Bowl this year. However I really felt before the game started that they were in way over their heads against Oklahoma.

I think most people thought the Pac-10 was the strongest conference this year. The talk was that the conference was so good top to bottom that we just beat up on each other.
The truth appears to be that the teams were so weak from top to bottom that any team could beat the other on any given Saturday.

It's unfortunate but the reputation of the
Pac-10 was severely damaged this year. :hoboy:

I'm not making excuses for the Ducks. They did that all season so it was no surprise. Only saying they didn't show up for the game. I still think the Huskies had the most potential, they way they handled other Northwest teams. They choked!!

Repeatedly I said that the Pac-10 was the toughest conference in the nation this year.

Repeatedly I said that when the bowl games came around we'd show the rest of the country how strong we were.

Dang, was I ever wrong.

Iowa will lose this evening in convincing fashion. Carson will make swiss chess out of that secondary. The Trojans have been running strong for months with the toughest schedule of any major program. I do like Iowa but don't think they can beat the men from Troy. Just my opinion but I'll stand behind it.

Hey Husker,
As an Iowa State Alum, I am pretty happy about that 1 bad quarter that the Hawkeyes had. Made our season to beat em for the fifth straight in their own house.

I have Iowa play a few times. Their defense is suspect, and they can't score a bunch quickly. I think USC wins if they can jump out early. Furthermore, I theorize that all midwest schools are at a distinct advantage in bowl games. They are distracted by the pretty girls in bikinis, the warm weather, etc. For USC players, just another day on the beach. USC by two TDs.

What can you say? The Pac-10 was as soft as a three-day-old sandshrimp this season. It's not always like that though.

UW vs. NU is always a good game....well, almost always. After 7 games, the series is tied at 3-3-1. In our four most recent games the scores have been:

'98: NU-55 Uw-7 (like I said, almost always)
'97: NU-27 UW-14
'92: NU-14 UW-29
'91: NU-21 UW-36

You have to love a tough series like this. And NU fans are a great bunch of classy fans. If anybody has any doubts about NU's football program, just remind them that most people weren't even born the last time NU didn't have a .500+ record. Now THAT'S an impressive stat.

I agree with you Dan in that I want a good game no matter what. There's been a surprising number of bad bowl games this year. Ugly to watch. In reality I'd rather my team lose a close game than win a laugher. Especially in a championship of any sort or bowl game.

There is no way around it; the Pac 10 is having a down year. But don't mistake parity with weakness. The Pac 10 has a strong non-conference record.

Husker the only sure thing we know about last year is that the Huskers DID get killed by Miami. And Oregon deserved to be in that game.

Over the last three years, two Prominent Big 12 schools have been beaten, (one Big 12 Champion convincingly) in Bowl games by Oregon...

Any conference can have a bad year.

The problem with the ducks was not their QB but defense. The coach should have spent more time on the secondary than undermining the confidence of the quarterback. Fife got them there and than is benched. What a great game plan!

Respect for the Pac 10? Don't get carried away. I thinkthat in a regular season game Iowa plays USC much closer, maybe even wins, depending on which USC D shows up.

At least I won't have to put up with a bunch of hawkeye fans talking about how they would be national champs if it weren't for one quarter of bad football.

Threemuch, what the heck do you base that one on? Iowa was handled by USC and the same thing would have happened in the regular season. They played bad the whole 2nd half and most of the first if you want to get down to it. Once again we see the top PAC 10 School Beat one of if not the best team from the so called best conferences again. It’s getting to be a habit really. Big 12 last year big 10 this year and so on and so on.

to many years teams from the rose bowl were happy to be there instead of playing teams like neb.....miami.....fsu..... <font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">What are you talking about? Until the BCS came into being the Pac-10 champion was obligated to go to the Rose Bowl. And who wouldn't be happy about playing in the Grandaddy of them all?

BTW: FSU is notorious for welching on schedules games. UW had a home/home scheduled with FSU, but apparently they didn't have the sack to travel to Seattle.

BTW2: The last team to beat Miami wasn't from the Big XII, or the Big 10, or the ACC, or the SEC.

Respect for the Pac 10, PLEASE graemlins/dork.gif
Someone please remind me again of the Pac 10 bowl records for this year....

I don't have anything against the Pac 10 but let's face it, they are a bunch of "mid level" teams (as Husker put it) looking good when they play each other but choke when it comes to a Bowl series. You can not win a championship or respect when you have no defense.

USC looked good last night against a good team. It's about time. Hats off to the trojans graemlins/applause.gif I am a little bias growing up in SEC country but I would like to see USC or any of the Washington teams play Florida, Georgia, even LSU. This is not a Pac 10 bashing from me so don't get me wrong here. I just don't like the fact that a team does not have to play another team in the same conference for a conference title. I also didn't like the fact that just because you were a Pac 10 "Champion", you got an automatic trip to the Rose Bowl.

Husker, you are right about the boosters. I have my own opinion about their situation but won't go into it here. I have zero respect for Franchonie, he took a "put together team by someone else", and led them to a good season. Big deal. They would have done the same with the Bengals coach pulling the trigger. When the real work was ahead of him he jumped ship and bailed. Good bye sucker  Now were stuck with you know who. Let's hope they get their booster's under control and let's hope your Huskers get their offense and coach under control. This was the first year in a long time that I couldn't bear to watch Nebraska play.

PEACE.......

There were Seven, 1,2,3,,,,,yes 7 teams from the Pac 10 who got bowl invites. And I can only think of one BCS Game lost by a Pac 10 Team in the last 3 years. (WSU two days ago, could have the fact their coach quite right before the game have had an impact?)

Thats 4-1 for Pac 10 teams since they implemented the BCS or just BS. Before that, all we had was the Rose Bowl. There isn't anyone here who wouldn't love to see a playoff system. The only team that could even compete with USC this year would be Miami....

The SEC, Big 10, Big 12 are good conferences top to bottom, but do any have the BCS record that the Pac 10 has?

Threemuch
01-03-2003, 11:38 AM
Oh, yeah, let's just hand USC the national championship right now. Anybody recall that they LOST, TWICE? Heck, Boise State has a better record than USC, and would probably give them a pretty good game.

Pac 10, what a strong conference. Nice bowl record.

Take away the distractions, Banks and Russel have a better game, and Iowa plays SC even. If the bowl game is played in some god forsaken place like Iowa City, the surfer boys fold like cheap suits.

Sombody explain this: How the heck is Ohio State undefeated? They lose big tonight. Three scores or more.

SEC SEC SEC they are the most overrated conference in the land by far. 3-4 in bowls this year not even .500 lets review shall we?

Start with the losers

Arkansas 14 Minnesota 29
Tennessee 3 Maryland 30
LSU 20 Texas 35
Florida 30 Michigan 38

Thought that was the cream of the SEC there?

The winners (2 came against teams that are having the worse year in 10 years mind you)

Georgia 26 Florida St (with 3rd string QB) 13
Auburn 13 Penn St 9 (didn’t Auburn lose to a Pac 10 team?)
Mississippi 27 Huskers 23

I don’t think the SEC has any room to talk. The last SEC team I saw play the Ducks looked like crap and got beat badly. USC beat Auburn with out much trouble so that’s all I have to go on is PAC 10 wins vs. SEC teams this year. What are you basing yours on?

Boedy,
The Pac 10 played a couple of the worst teams in the SEC, Miss State and Auburn. How about if they played Georgia or Florida? Let's compare bowl victories shall we? How many bowl games has Bama lost in ten years? How many has Oregon or Washington lost in ten years? Think about it for a little bit before you answer this question mind you. How many more bowl games has the SEC played in and won than the PAC 10 over the past decade? SEC overated? In your dreams buddy. USC lost TWICE this year. How many bowl games did the Pac 10 win this year? Shouldn't take too long to answer that question. How many bowl games did the SEC win this year? That's what my facts are based on, how bout yours?

I don't think I'm talking too much jibberish. Just comparing numbers is all.
