Got a electric trolling motor and was wondering what the best Battery for around $100.00 for a Minkota 12 volt 50lb thrust. On a 16 ft Aluminum DB. graemlins/idea.gif
corkie monster, if you got the room get your self 2 6 volt batteries, get a short cable run one _ and one + together then the two remaining will give you a + and a - and now have 12 volts with double the amps and will troll strong all day just an idea ,DK

I use electic motors alot and the best batteries I have found are a "dry cell "battery. What you run into with electric motors and batteries is that every time you charge your battery you shorten its daily life span. Now with myself I charge just about every day and would end up buying about 3 new sets of batteries a year because they begin to hold less and less of a charge. Dry cells are guaranteed to up to 500 charges with no memory. They are also about half the size and weight of a regular group 30 12 volt battery
The brand I have is called Thunderbolt, have had them for two years and still going strong but I think they are no longer around, there are other brands. Now they are a little more than you want to spend, but well worth it. Heck just the size and weight benefit is worth the money. Make sure it is a dry cell not a gell cell.
Good luck
Travis

What DK is describing is a series-parallel setup. Not much advantage to it 'cuz of the extra weight and expense.

Get a battery that weighs at least 100 pounds hook it up to your electric motor and throw it over the side at the first deep hole,
this will make a lot of people happy that are trying to drift the river with out two way traffic

Corkie,
Don't be mad at Jim. I wound him up earlier today.
I assumed the same thing, but did not say anything.

Corkie...
There was a thread all about batteries within the last couple of weeks. Just search for it. It had a lot of good info.
For what it's worth, dealing with $*#&$* who don't bother to wait until all the facts are in before throwing out their opinions is an unfortunate downside of this fantastic forum...

For $150.00 you can get a Rolls Battery. These are the best on the market. You can expect 1300 cycles (fishing trips) out of 1 battery. They also have a 7 year warranty.
With any battery maintence is everything. So when you make your choice as to wich brand of battery you want, make sure you have a good charger to maintain it. Not all chargers work properly on all types of batteries.
Try semarine.com or call Larry Jenke at 503-543-7710. Larry knows more about batteries and chargers than anyone I have ever known.
