I hope everyone had a safe and fun time welcoming the new year.

Now back to my topic, I want to get a cover for my Willie, I haven't started looking yet. I was hoping to get some info from my friends here first, maybe someone has been through this before and got a great deal somewhere or maybe someone has a special hook up and would like to help out a penny pincher, anyhow, my drifter is a 17ft (54 inch Btm.)

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advanced
Bobby

I'm watching this thread, I've been thinking the same thing for my 16x48 drifter.

i made the cover for mine using polytarp (green, thank you), some rope and some duct tape. it didn't turn out too ugly. i'd get you some pics but my computer room is torn apart and the other PC does the digicam.

the problem i have is that no matter what, it fills with water. my trailer is a home made one and doesn't tip up the way the regular ones do. i'm thinking i might duct tape a funnel in the middle and run a hose out of the drain hole. i got my polytarp on sale, the rope was $10 (and i still have plenty left over), and the duct tape was laying around the house. total cost: $16. if anyone is interested, i can get some pics together and give the play-by-play on how i did it.

Ampersat,

I would like to see what you conjured up.

I was hoping that a drift boat cover made specifically for my boat would alleviate the water collection problem.

Call 5 C's, they make the best Drift Boat Cover around. Be sure to take your boat there and she will mesure for a great fit. They use Top-Gun material, with a wide variety of colors. Below is the last info on them that I have, hope this helps !!

Drachir,

That's what I had in mind.
Do you mind telling me how much you paid for that? It looks like you wouldn't have a water collection problem.

Do you ever tow with it?

I just got a new cover for mine for Christmas. I have a 17' willie also. My wife ordered the cover from Willie. I don't know what a custom one costs but the one from Willie is about $200

I had one made by Tony's Tops (16'X54"). He's out in Nehtarts (lost his number). I think he said he made the tops for Duckworths before he semi-retired to the coast. Excellent work. I had mine made with oar lock pockets and a raised spot for the motor well. I think it was $300-400. It's been outside for over 6 years and is holding up great. The Wille cover also looks real nice, and the price is lower. Didn't notice any oar lock pockets on it though.

The willie cover has oar lock pockets and a opening for a side mount anchor bracket if you have one. Real nice cover.

Drachir,

What do you use down the center as a ridge for your cover? Did it come with the top? Also do you travel with the cover on? Good lookin top I'm going to look into them.

Thanks for all the great leads.

I like the Willie covers.
pocket for oars, pocket for side anchor arm
and towable that's sounds like the cover I need.

They supply a heavy Nylon strap with the top, that gives the center of the top it's peak, so it will drain properly. Yes it can be left on to tow with. Just mention to Elaine I recommended her covers and perphaps,(not sure), you'll get a discount of a few bucks. It's a great DB cover!! There are also many options available, like a sewn in front bra, to protect against rock chips. You also can get it with oar lock pockets, and lots of colors are available!!

I had a back cover custom made for my 19 ft. Duckworth. Top notch material, kept water and leaves out, and the sun. I think it was +/- $ 300. Again well worth it. He's also done other work for me at great prices. I highle recommend him. Give him a call for a quote. And be ready to talk hunting!

Elaine Chatham runs 5-C's. She is a super person with a great talent for making covers. I have the same cover on my boat and my buddy has one for his sled. They are the best value I have seen and the Top gun fabric is the best. You may drop your jaw at the $265 price tag but I have had mine for 3 years now, I can travel with it on, and it has yet to show any wear. You can spend a little bit on a cheap cover several times or just buy one cover that was hand made for your boat. Plus the money you save from the wear and tear from the elements is a bonus.
I needed mine because I have a tandem axle on my driftboat trailer and I can't tip it up. Plus it keeps the grime and dust out of the boat while I travel.

I bought this cover a year ago and it cost about $265 as I recall. It is real top quality, and worth every penny!!! The cover can also be left on the boat when towing, so it's nice and dry inside when you get to your destination.
