Friday before Christmas -- NF ALSEA. Took a 14 year old son of a friend. I have taken him several times before and he has always come back disappointed. Not this time!

We got the spot just above the last riffle before the hatchery. I put him in what I thought was the best place and I fished next to him for about an hour and a half. Nothing.

We didn't have much time left so I thought I would try a different spot. On my way there I heard a lot of yelling. I figured someone had a fish and just in case it was my friend I went back.

Sure enough it was him. He hooked his first stealhead on a pink pearl spin-n-glow. He fought it well. Only had to tell him to keep his pole tip up one time.

He was so pumped. Over and over he yelled, "I got one." I don't think he could believe it.

The fish was a little dark and that was the only fish we saw caught that day. This made it even better for him I'm sure.

Anyway this is my first official post for this site. Thanks for a great web site and all the wonderful info. Now I can start asking some of my own questions. I am glad to be a part of ifish.

Barry.

Is it wrong to be jealous of a 14 year old when you're 36? Just kidding. Great story, now he's hooked for life. Poor sucker!
lol

That's just about the location I scored on my first steelhead about a hunnerd years ago. I can still remember it - the fight was awesome, and I was so afraid I was going to lose that beautiful fish that I was actually trembling when I got it in.

It's true - the poor lad is hooked for life! What a thing to have on your conscience.

Welcome aboard.

I was 14 when I caught my first too. And it was an older friend of the family who took me out. Course I had to go about 10 times with him before that before I got one (at least it seems like it). Let me tell you, it that kid was into it enough to go out and get skunked a couple of times before getting into one he is definitely in trouble! Seriously though, for a kid like that who's dad just might not be that interested you are giving him a priceless gift and you are probably somewhere next to God in his eyes. Well done!

Clarification -- His dad is very involved in his sons life. We all went together one time. The problem is that when the dad fishes he can't see well enough to tell where his cast went. They are a loving family and attend the same church that I go to -- good friends.

The son (Patrick) is totally nuts about fishing -- taking him out fishing was a no brainer -- something that had to be done.
