I'd use it on spinners for keeping the hook straight and on the hook shanks of wobblers when the current is ripping and you want to slow the action.

If it is small diameter and thick you can cut them for the above use.
<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Hey Giz, would that "above use" be the one you mentioned or the one Hustlerjim mentioned.

I have not used the IV tubing, but I always carry a loop of oxygen tubing. I take about 18 inches of the stuff and tie it into a loop. I use it to haul my fish around once they are bled out.
It can be used to cover hook points, but I've used the tubing to cover the points of exposed sheet metal screws used in some areas of my boat's construction. Keeps my hands from getting scratched when I'm reaching into tight places.
Is it about the diameter that might be used in Dink Floats?

I brought my wifes home. I cut about 1 inch off and run it through a swivel to make sliders for sturgeon fishing off the bank. Works great.

I make a scent holder out of it. When I plunk in the Columbia for summer Steelhead I use 40 Lbs Maxima leaders for my spin-n-glo's because the glo's spin well on it and it is stiff enough to stay tangle free. Well the diameter of the heavy leader also helps keep the scent oil in my scent holder. It dissipates from the tube very slowly.
Cut about 1 inch of tube and place a bead with a small hole in it in one end of the tube slide it on the leader above the glo, fill with your favorite scent, place another bead over the leader and insert in tube, works well, easy to refill and with the right oil catches alot of fish.

Bill,
That small diameter tube works great for floats. Take a small nail, heat it up and plunge it through a small cork, backer rod, or even a cork from a wine bottle. Then place the small tube on the nail and pull it gently back through the cork, backer rod, etc. Then you have a nice homemade float. Just make sure the nail is cool and it fits snug into the tube. Takes some practice but it really works. I use a small stainless steel nail that fits really tight into the tube and does not pull out when your half way through the float. If you find that the tube slides out of the float just add a drop of super glue to the float and tube. I like to run my tube longer on both ends of the float so adding a small bead is easier to see.

Wow! I had no idea there were so many of us sitting around with nothing to do...and with so many good ideas about how to use whatever life or the nurse hand us...Don't stop now, fergoddsakes...
All but one are great suggestions. I kind of figured out the spinner stuff and the sturgeon sinker slider, but the homemade bobber is great and I'll make a few scent thingys for next Christmas.
As for the what hustlerjim came up with, (and only god knows for sure what he's talking about most of the time anyway)...he just got back from Hawaii and I'm not sure I even want to know what or how a "hooka bonga" is all about...

Bill, I'm pretty sure that at least one of the uses for the IV tubing, is to cut it into about 3 inch lengths, and then find a snap that you can firmly snap around the middle of the tube, then thread your mainline throught the tube, and tie your drop line to the snap. Like what you might want to use for back bouncing or sturgeon fishing. It makes for a sliding weight. I'm sure there are other ideas.

You guys are killing me! I think I'm going to go out and go through the barn dumpster before the garbage man comes in the morning ('bout 4 am). No telling what kind of fishing gear I can come up with!

Mel, I don't think it would be a good idea for you to go digging in the dumpster... people might get the wrong impression!

OK, all you experts and gizmogadgeteers...
I just brought my wife home from knee surgery (she's in bed, I'm on ifish), where I picked up an interesting tidbit from the nurse, who said I look like Dennis Erickson (clearly a compliment for him), then asked if I wanted my wife's IV tubing. She said a lot of fishermen ask for it. I asked her if she meant surgical tubing (i.e., the old-fashioned way to use weight for steelhead) and she said no, it was the thinner, clear-plastic IV tubes they took home.
Naturally, I immediately wanted it, but can someone tell me why? Some new secret system?
As usual, I won't use your name in the paper unless you want me to (David Johnson...I'm particularly eager to attach your name and business to a story about tidewater steelhead fishing)...

could be used for some tube flies. I use to use the tube that came with air shocks for trucks.
If it is small diameter and thick you can cut them for the above use.

Bill, I have no idea about oxygen tubing but ... Insulin syringes can dramatically improve bank fishing in the mountain lakes.
Just thread a worm up your leader and blow it up with air using the syringe. It floats, looks about 2X normal size and catches fish like nobodies business.
You prolly can't get them at the hospital but if you are not sporting the 'junkie' look, most pharmacies will sell you a few for fishing. Insulin syringes are the best because the needle is so small. Your inflated worm will not leak.
Farm supply stores sell syringe too.

Pilar, Go to the local farm store that caters to hay burners. They got all the syringes you’ll need. Lots of sizes. Cheap too.

Hey Bill I also just had knee surgery. I want to know what you have that I don't have. My nurse did not offer to give me my IV tubing. Maybe I need to check with my wife, I wasn't feeling to good when I left the hospital. She made some christmas candy that was quite chewey, Hmmm.

Papermaker has the right idea what with all the excitement on a good day of fishing a guy can forget to eat!
And there is this senario...
Read a couple of good threads on ifish to get the gray matter thinking, then your typing away and soon its bed time and you haven't eaten. But don't worry because the wife hooked you up between belly laughs and musings.
