Beckman Nets

I am in the market for a new Beckman net. The question is handle length, and hoop size. Is the 30x31 big enough or should I get the 34x40. Also, the larger hoop comes with a 52" deep bag whereas the smaller hoop has a 42" bag. What are the advantages of the deeper bag? I will definitely be getting the coated bag.

I am fishing out of an AW Intruder and wondering if I need the 8' handle, I think the 4' would be too short, looking at the 6' option.

I always look to your vast experience for guidance.

As far as nets go, IMHO, no handle is too long and no basket is too big. Period.

Big net for Big fish. I have a 34 X40 with a six foot handle. You can reach farther with the 6' handle but it's a pain to swing around in the boat I kept beating my partners in the head with the long handle. I cut a foot off it works better for me. The deep bag reduces the chance of the fish jumping out of the net if you don't get the hoop closed. Just my .02 cents.

I got the 4 ft handle in my boat and it hasn't failed me yet. I looked at both the 6 and 8 ft nets but decided to keep the space constraints to a minimum. If I have to have and 8 Ft handle to get your fish someone's doing something not quite right.

my bag also has the coating but the only reason I got it was because the other mesh is a pain to get hooks out of. my boat is a 19Ft AW formula vee. use at your own risk, your results may vary from those marked on the package... :smile:

I have the largest hoop and bag with the four foot handle on my Beckman. Is it over kill for most situations? why of course it is! I went with the non-coated bag because I like it more pliable, (lays flat on the sole of my boat and easier to grab when netting IMHO) - hooks are more apt to get stuck, but it really has'nt been a problem. I think that the smaller hoop would be just fine, but I would still want the biggest sock.
