I was listening to NPR the other day while driving out to fish, and a weatherman was complaining that they don't have the big costal dopplers that the other regions of the country do. Because of that its harder to gauge what's really going on out to sea(I guess the weather bouys don't represent a complete enough picture or something). So according to this guy, yes, they are just guessing what's coming into the NW.
A pair of doppler stations would be about 9 million dollars.

RSF,
I remember a new story a few weeks ago where they just put up a new satellite for this very reason. Don't remember when it is supposed to be operational, but it is supposed to be able to help deal with the lack of coverage in the Pacific.

Kilchis Canyon Weather Station (http://www.ifish.net/Weather/Kilchis.htm)
Our weather station, in the Kilchis Canyon recorded a 60 mph gust. It says on the emergency e mails they recorded 58 MPH at Tillamook. We beat it!
I got up at 2:30 and watched the station for a bit. For 5 minutes or more, we had sustained gusts of over 40... Scary!

Hmm... Wind chimes on the porch are doing over time here. Supposed to be 40 here today. I think I'll go check the dock lines and hang out for a while.
Oops - no more than posted that than a big one hit. Our bear WELCOME log fell over and can't get up! First time he's blown over!

Trampoline is holding firm with the big anchor set out.
I feel like boarding the tramp and throwing a line out in the river.

It's howling down here in tidewater. I see out behind my house a tree has blown over. I know I did feel one big gust last night, I woke me from a dead sleep. Hey Jennie, hang on to that trampoline. Ours got caught in the wind last year, went airborneabout 60 feet, and almost landed into the Wilson !! Did we have much rain or just a lot of wind?

Are you fishing this weekend? I am taking a few rookies (yes including me!) down to Kelly point, Tacklebuster said he would be down there as well.

Dont know for sure. Tides arent quite right for a full day. If the wind isnt too bad might have to head to the fishery. But then chasing some steelies around on the coast sounds fun too.
Sooooo many fish, so little time off. :depressed:

I can only fish for half a day anyway, we have our company Christmas party tomorrow night, so hopefully the fish will be biting early! Good luck where ever you go!
