Ok I'm a newbie, but I have fished most of the U.S., the last year out here.
I have extesive knowledge of walleye fishing on the Great Lakes, and Minnesota, as well as ice fishing. I have lately been into steelhead fishing, and have been successful. I have trout fished , with success in Wyoming, Montana, and out here, so I'm not a total ididot. My tale is this. When you ice fish, you drop a weight into your hole to check the depth, and set your lure. A few years ago I did this, and upon my retreival, I encountered much resistance and landed an eelpout, which is half fish, half eel, and to everyone I have talked to, has never been done before. Also I am one of the lucky ones who caught a steelhead on my second cast ever on the Wilson River, with a black panther martin spinner, and I thought this is too easy, I must be fishing illegally, but later found out it was beginners luck. Lately I have fished the East Fork Lewis, and have had success with jig and float, though the fish have been dark. I enjoy the sight, and look forward to fishing with and meeting you all.

It took you two casts to get your first fish.......oh I see you must have had a backlash on the first cast!

Congatulations! And welcome!

Hey Pen,
Welcome to the fun.

Used to ice fish all the time in Montana. Don't ya just love a nice big slimy eelpout. Specially when they try to wrap around your arm. :hoboy: Not too bad when they are cubed and deep fried.

Wish there was someplace out here to go icefishing, really miss it.

Penobscot - Welcome aboard! I have it on good authority that Minnesota is a great place to be FROM! graemlins/applause.gif Not sure the fishing is better (or worse) out here but at least you won't have to build a fire in the winter and change your shirt every 10 minutes in the Summer. Oh ya -NO BUGS to speak of either.
Wifes Family is all from International Falls. Swede's and Norwegions of course.

Yeah that wrap around your arm thing is pretty gross. Did you fish the Tongue River Resevoir? As for the East Fork, I'll probably be up ther tomorrow. My parents have a house right on the river, and I'm teaching my Mom to read the water for me ( color, clarity, flow, etc.) so I know how it looks before I go.
