I've been fishing the Umpqua mainstem and was woundering if any other IFISH members fish there also. I'm kinda new to the river so if anyone has any advice for a bankie it would be great. I've found some good access but new spots are always welcome. Also if you need a fishing partner or need another rig for a shuttle I'd like to fish with ya.

I fish the mainstem of the Umpqua from Elkton up to Tyee during the winter. There are some go bank places but you have to get there early. I am a banky right now my boat is in the middle of repair. Hope to see you on the river.

Hey WalkerSteelhead
Ya, it's not often that I see the good pull outs without a truck in it. Is most of the bank fishing plunking cuz I don't see many people drift fishing it. I'm driving from the valley too, maybe we'll have to carpool or something. I have a drift boat but I don't take it as I don't know the river and don't have anyone to fish with. Good luck!!

I trailed the boat from Eugene to Scott Creek Boat Ramp on the Umpqua. I think there were about 8 other boat trailers at the Scott Creek parking area when I put in that late Friday morning. The Umpqua water color was murky showing about 2-foot visibility. Elkton River Gauge was dropping.
Most other anglers were against the banks. So I watched the fishfinder on my drift down the centers, staying away from spooking any winter steelhead, which should be migrating along the riverbanks at this higher river level and color.
Everyone was friendly and wavin' back, but no reports of winter steelhead. It was a warm dry day for middle January. I returned Saturday and was the second rig to park up on Hwy 38 because I slept in. I was probably the 20th boat trailer. Elkton River Gauge was still dropping, and the water color unchanged from the previous day.
I anchored off with no other boat in sight, just bankers on the south side. I used my sea anchor on the outside to keep the boat from grabbing the inside eddy and rotating around my anchorage. I started with a hot shot, changed to a spin-n-glow with eggs. I changed to a pink/white jig with worm. All I found were skunks.
I really enjoy sliding float fishing, (my first time). I didn't see anyone else with Winter Steelhead. One gentleman at the take out, said they released one.
Any way, it was still a good day. I'm goin' back, there's allot more river for me to explore. I think that next time I'll stay in Reedsport when driving from Eugene
