I was out on the river today and cracked my shoe on my outboard jet. It is a 115 mercury 1986 outboard. It is to much damage to weld it. I was just wondering how much a new shoe will cost me.

Was it the Clack? I see that the levels are low.

Stopped in at Outboards Jets in San Leandro CA Tues to pick up an exhaust tube for my Merc pump. Learned a bit about a little known co.

New around $250 to $300, might be able to find a used one somewhere. The shop down the street has a few "shoes", I'll check for you. The problem I had was my shoe was cast aluminum, couldn't weld it. I don't know, maybe yours is the same? I would keep the grates if they are in good shape. Those usually run $8 to $10 a piece!! A lot of the shoes are also interchangeable. Just keep your cone if it is in good shape and make sure it bolts into your new shoe. Good luck. I'll keep you posted.

Cast alumnium can be welded, my shoe has been patched many times. I've also seen plates welded to the sides to reduce cavatation (sp?).

Keta,
My flatbottom cavitates a little, ok a lot, so how do they weld on the plates on the side of the shoe? Who does it and is it worth doing for reduced clearance in the shallows?
Thanks,
Andy

Used to have an outboard pump that had lots of stitches (welds) on the boot. The whole front lip had been broken off, and there was a welded crack up the whole side of the boot. Worked great for me, and I never broke it again while I had it.

worldlyme,
I have a welding shop in Canby. Is this shoe aluminum? If so call me and I would be happy to give you an estamate. If it is cast iron. *disregard* I will be here today until 4:30. Closed Friday [27th.] Back on Monday [30th]

Happy Holidays!
Wet-net,
They use a good grade of aluminum and they weld good with TIG, I've never tried to MIG weld it.
worldlyme,
My brothers shop in W.Salem can do the work too. E-mail me if you want his Ph#. He's busy doing helecopter modifications but he can get it done quick.

Yeah Chris, I'll bet you do! I understand it's fixed now! But hey, it's not as good a story as the Black Duck story of Hogmasters! Hurry and get back from CA, I think that boat's gonna be back on the river early next week!
