I have about a billion questions, but I'll try to limit them to one every few months. My question is about fishing techniques for the NF Lewis from a drift boat. From my eyes there is a lot of water to cover. Does anyone have basic suggestions for fishing the NFL somewhat effectively?
Thanks, sorry if this question is lame. I'm not looking for exact locations, just some basic guidence.

TC...the best way to learn any river is to fish it and observe what others are doing and where they are doing it.

It may take you a full season, but that's what it takes.

Some people pull plugs, some bait diver. Some side drift, some anchor and cast.

What is your style.

Follow someone that is fishing the way you like.

Put your time in and shadow a boat or two down the river.

Trout Chaser --- E-mail me after the NF is back down to 6,000 or less and I'll give you a sled tour of the river. We may not catch any (I rarely do), but you will end up knowing a bit more.

Watch out for the sleds!!! They're everywhere (and they're not occupying unproductive water either). From my experience, this river isn't exactly drift boat friendly. I would jump on the opportunity for the sled tour though.

P.S. I'm not an "anti-sledite," I've just had some very bad experiences with some rude individuals in sleds on the NF Lewis.

Don't believe Jack when he says he doesn't catch fish. The man is humble to a fault. The time I fished with him we had a VERY good day. The information he passed to me has allowed me to be successful in several follow up trips to the N Fork. If you get a chance to hop in his boat, take it!

About drifting it, The only drift I've ever done is the meat hole to Island drift for salmon. The disadvantage of the drift is that you only get one maybe two cracks at productive spots, just depends at how much you want to row. With a sled you can find the fish and then pound them to submission.

Take Thumper's offer. He really knows this river and is one nice guy to fish with. Hello Jack. We still need to get together and fish one of those coastal streams together.

Thanks for the nice comments Ryan and John. I am always glad to show fishermen around the Lewis. It is the only river I know anything about. The only condition is that anybody I show around has to agree to do the same thing for others sometime.
