Hope this picture comes out. Couple of good fish from the Clack.
I fixed it. Yip, places like webshots don't allow pics to be housed there, and then transferred here.

Can't give you who is doing it currently, but a couple of years ago they had the Northwest steelheaders involved with marking the steelhead by cutting off the left vent. Fishermens was putting on a derby and cash prizes were given out to the biggest steelhead with that missing fin.
Great way to get feedback on the fish. The have all the info logged as to when and where they dumped these smolts and just tried to get some info on size and #ers of the returns on these fish.

Hafta,
Try uploading the pic here to this site. I believe there is an issue with permission to copy the photo's URL to the board?

I know when they recycle the fish down stream in some places they do cut part of a fin off or if the fish was netted before they some times lose part of a fin.

Way to go! Looks like you had a fun day. I think that for special releases "they" will clip an extra fin. ie. The Wilson Broodstock fish will have an extra fin clipped (in addition to the adipose fin).
Somebody on this board will undoubtedly have the answer to exactly what fin is cut and who cut it!! That's why I love to surf this "board." Pun intended. So many knowledgeable people.
Keep your powder dry,

Most deffinatly the one missing only one fin is a summer fish, they only clip the Adipose on those fish. The one missing two fins(the larger one I assume) is probably an eagle creek winter fish depending on which fin besides the adipose is clipped. By the way which section did you drift, feldhiemers to barton? I fished barton today and only had one good hit, bobber and jig.

I'll go out on a limb here and assume you included the AD fin in your count making that PIG an ADRV which would be a Big Creek stock two salt bound for Eagle Creek.(11-13lbs too).
We got two hens on Wed. both were ADRV Winter fish(a tad over 12lbs each). Although they are discontinuing the BC stock fish in Eagle Creek(remember all the one salts we got last year???) there are supposed to be some two salts and WOW! possibly some threes(?) coming in this season. I have to thank David Johnson for the fish bio info though.
Lemme know if I'm right about those clips......

Last year on the Grande Ronde I caught a fish with an extra fin clipped and as we left we met a person from ODFW that was checking fish at the parking spot. We asked why the extra fin was clipped and she said that the fish was clipped that way because it had a chip in it's head that was implanted to track the fish's path. Then she tried to scan it's head with some scanner thingy, which didn't work. So, she asked if she could take the head so they could get the chip out. I don't need the head, and she was kinda cute, so what the hey?
No Foolin'.... When they say 'steelhead', they mean it!! ROBOFISH!!

Looks like the larger fish has a missing vent fin. That indicates an Eagle Creek fish. There are a couple other clips on the Clackamas too. Nice fish! What did they hit??
