View Full Version : An Idea

Three great posts today by MADWIZERD on reading water, GL2 on gear and techniques, and Fastwater on bankfishing etiquette, got me thinking.

There is a wealth of experience and expertise represented by the members of ifish. It shows up in bits and pieces every day. What about putting some of it together in an Ifish Guide for Newbies?

Chapters could include:

1. Reading Water
2. Tackle and techniques for all the species, including Sturgeon, Winter and Summer Steelhead, Springers, Fall Chinook, and other salmon....
3. Bank fishing etiquette
4. Boat fishing etiquette
5. Boating safety
6. Whitewater boating
7. Fly fishing for steelhead

Plus many others come to mind.

It would have to be a labor of love. Someone would need to serve as an editor. Jennie would need to have full editorial control...but not be saddled with the work.

I haven't been an Ifisher for very long. Maybe this idea has been broached before? It could be sold like the decals and hats to raise money for Ifish. I would be glad to put my labor where my mouth is, as long as it would serve to help Ifish and new fisherpeople.

Does this idea have any merit?

Yah...I know. I'm not thinking of a defintive work...more like a basic primer. What you wrote was very good...and more concise and applicable than most of what I've read over the years. It would work very well just the way it was written.

No doubt people would be willing to pay for this info. That could be a source of funds for the maintenance of this site and for the community efforts going on from time to time.

As evident from the recent posts of the number of fishermen/women still not "catching" I bet lots of current members would pay too.

Finally, I believe that education is the most important thing we can support in order to preserve our fisheries. Most of us want to do things right and if we are told, will. And if we can contribute to the joy of fishing by passing knowledge on to others, then it will attract more future anglers.
Great idea!
