The NW steelheaders really needs our support.
They are a wonderful organization and you will get quite a bit out of your membership, personally.
Also, they use your membership money to do wonderful things to save our sport.
Please, if you aren't a member of the Steelheaders, consider it, ask for it for Christmas.... What a great group of people!!!

OK! You just stick with ifish.
However, I have decided that I am now going to charge a fee for ifish.
I'll send it directly to the steelheaders. Then, you guys can be a member of both.
Good idea????

It really is an interesting idea.
We could be the ifish chapter of the NWSA.
I don't really have the time or inclination to do it... but.... it's kind of fun to think about!
Imagine the money we could raise for them!

I like the idea of a 50/50 split. Help the steelheaders and ifish.

I have thought about that idea for a time now. A virtual chapter! Some may not like the idea of belonging to the assocation. I am all for it.

jen<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Thanks for the plug Jen  Two best sports fishing advocacy groups around are Association of Northwest Steelheaders and Tillamook Anglers.
I vouche that it's money well spent in either case.
The Tualatin Chapter of NWS was going to have our winter fish-a-long tomorrow on the Wilson......well looks like it's going to have to wait until next week.
The Sandy river chapter is a great group of folks too although I have yet to win anything at one of their monthly raffles :depressed:
Here is an early heads up for everyone interested. The Wild Broodstock Rodeo will be in March. This is a great fishing event and also a chance to help out the wild broodstock program. Rumor has it that Marty Peterson will be doing the Macarena for all those who attend
The first one I attended in 2001 I had the pleasure of being in Bill and Jennies boat. We hooked a few fish too. Last years event went to a team format with Mark Anderson's team winning.
So make sure you have the March 8-9 2003 available. We need guys with drift boats too

So if you join one chapter of ANWS, you can't participate in the "members only" events of the other chapters?

The Tom McCall Chapter holds their monthly meeting at the Old Spaghetti Factory with a luncheon meeting  open to the public.
We are not an exclusive group at all  We even allow the likes of Steve Salveson aka fishbait to be a member  Might draw the line at Giz or C&E  but everyone else is welcome.

Sounds good Shane, but SandySteel mentioned above a "members only" event. When I join, do I need to be particular about which chapter gets my membership dues?

Shane S,
I just wrote a thread about ?'s I have always been interested about NWSH but unsure what the rules are. Like what kind of a comitment per year ect....Jennie spoke about charging for Ifish.. That's not the reason I haven't joined I just have little time to fish let alone make a certain amout of meetings or fish alongs. Sorry I really have no idea what they do or what is required from it's members..

When I joined I merely wanted to put my money where I thought it would do some good. You are not required to go to meetings and you are not required to help with river clean ups and other related activities. But you may find that after a while you want to participate. As far as member only events, the only times I know of are when boats are required and we don't have enough boats for bodies or similar limitations. Generally the Steelheaders love to take people fishing. In fact I have found the majority of new members are people looking to learn how catch a steelhead.

You can either join a specific chapter or become an at large member not affiliated with any chapter.
Hope this helps

I think I'll go to a meeting and give it a shot.
I love the idea and it's making sence now.

All events for our chapter are open to anyone who wants to come along except for one. The Frost Bite Follies, a winter steelhead float from Oxbow to Dabney with a hot lunch at Camp Angelos, has had to become a members only event. This is because there were simply getting to be too many people wanting to come and we actually found that some members got bumped from coming (due to a lack of boats) while some non-steelheader members came. It is quite the event with 13- 14 boats floating down the river and a great lunch in front of a roaring fire. I know that some guys join just for that event. It makes the $30 for membership seem paltry.
I think if a non-Sandy chapter member of the steelheaders wanted to come it would be open to them.

You can attend meetings but some events like our frost bite follies are for members only as the chapter buys lunch on this event.
It's a great organization!
The link for the Sandy chapter (meetings are quite a ways away from Aloha) web site is below.
