Columbia River report for 12/13/02, the sturgeon challenge was one weekend off.
T-6, outgoing tide, 40+ fish to the boat between 14:00 and dark. 2 keepers, 43" and plenty of fun.
The fish are in scattered pockets with many shakers, few keepers (20 to 1) and we had to move around to find them. Also fished the punchbowl and it was dead. There is a large flock of Merganser (fish duck) diving and feeding in the general area. The fish finder showed a great number of small fish under the boat.
The water in the Columbia and the Willamette was green and clear. Almost as if it had not rained at all. The current was light and the river level is still low. Smelt and worms was the ticket.
Oh and they are biting very light, so pay attention.
Tight lines ..............
