Anyone deep fried a salmon? I have done turkeys and prime rib. All turned out excellent. I plan on doing a 17" Jack Coho I caught at Barton in September that I pulled out of the freezer. This dudes going head first into five gallons of 350 degree peanut oil. Has anyone done this and if so how fast is the cook time. I have thermometers but I am guessing that a fish will cook pretty fast and continue to cook after being removed from the oil. I have never heard of anyone cooking fish in this manner. If you have any tips they are appreciated.

Don't know if I would put it in a turkey fryer... But if you totaly bone it then cut into small like sized pieces and get some Pride of the West batter mix you Will like the results. Overcooked fish is not good! Undercooked fish is susi........

We did some the other day with the Pride of the West batter and it came out great. Doesn't take very long to cook. Good luck.

Cut into small, boneless pieces. Deep fry in Japanese "panko" breading. Available at any supermarket. You won't go back.

Revolutionary idea, maybe Redd Greene has done it? I fry my small pieces in Krusteaz tempura batter flovored with salt, pepper and a lot of garlic powder. It is amazing!

heavymetal headbanger, i have done fish that way whole. it is more of an asian thing. if you have kids you might chop the head off before serving. it is easier to remove the bones after cooking and you wont waste any. i figure a 17 incher will take 8-10 minutes. good luck
