I knew the river was high and off color but there are times when you just have to go. Standing in the rain, making casts to places where the ghost steelhead could be is what it is all about.

Fished the Alsea just above 5 rivers from noon till dark. Dark color down by the lower river and a tiny bit less dark up higher by me. River was like 5.9 at noon and by dark it must have been down to 5.2 or something. Just plunked but no luck. Not many people fishing as conditions were garbage. There where like 90 trucks at the Plunking Shack Wayside, they had a fire going and I bet having a good time. New to the river so it was interesting. It could be good as it drops but there is more rain comming ...right?...rain and wind? Anyone know anyone with some private land access? There are vast expances under private controll. Oh well I had fun, more than fun, whatever word that is. Maybe next time I'll find some fish and some greenish fishy water instead of muddy maddness.

Where is the plunking shack wayside? Just was curious as I am not at all versed on the Alsea.
